As of: October 6, 2026 (late afternoon ET)
Scope: Tuesday’s board covers cases reported from late morning Monday, Oct. 5, through late morning Tuesday, Oct. 6, ET, with custody and charge status checked as sources opened today. The stories come from police, court and prosecutor statements, wire services and local newsrooms in the United States, Kenya, Italy, South Africa, Hong Kong, Mexico, England, Australia, Russia, Chile, Canada, France, Singapore, Argentina, Scotland, Türkiye, Paraguay, South Korea, Wales, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Honduras, Germany, Egypt, Pakistan, Spain, the Philippines, Estonia, Nigeria and Brazil.
The Pentagon says President Trump has approved a firing-squad execution for the Army psychiatrist who killed 13 people at Fort Hood in 2009, which would be the U.S. military’s first execution since 1961. In Nairobi, seven people accused of killing psychiatrist Victoria Mutiso pleaded not guilty to a fresh, consolidated charge as the State moved to keep them all in custody. Turin police arrested a widow and her new partner over a man found dead in July, and an Ohio judge sent a former “American Idol” contestant to prison for life. Courts handed down life terms in Kowloon Bay, Edinburgh, Dolores, Wichita and La Spezia, and New Hampshire’s top court left the state’s last death sentence in place. Fresh custody orders and charges also landed in Coatzacoalcos, Moscow, Los Ángeles, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Giza, Almadén, Pärnu, Karachi and more than two dozen other places, while six carried cases each took a new step.
Fort Hood: Trump Approves Firing Squad for Hasan
Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said Monday that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth recommended an Army firing squad for Nidal Malik Hasan and President Trump approved it, Stars and Stripes and CBS News report. “The Secretary of the Army will set the time and place of the execution,” Parnell said. Hasan, then an Army psychiatrist, opened fire at a soldier readiness center at Fort Hood, Texas, on Nov. 5, 2009, killing 13 people.
A 2013 court-martial convicted him of 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder, and he was sentenced to death. Hasan has been held on military death row at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and the Supreme Court declined to review his case last year, Stars and Stripes says. If carried out, it would be the first execution by the U.S. military since 1961 and the Army’s first by firing squad since World War II. It is unclear whether he will mount new challenges in federal court.
Nairobi: Seven Mutiso Accused Plead Not Guilty Afresh
All seven people accused of murdering psychiatrist Dr Victoria Mutiso pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a single consolidated charge before Justice Alexander Muteti at the Milimani High Court, Capital FM reports. The fresh plea came after Police Constable Collins Bett Kiplangat and Pius Muiru Mbugua, alias Headboy, were brought before the court, joining Rose Mbithe Mulwa, her children Chris and Angela Mulwa, Police Constable Elijah Kibelion Kimoi and Maritim Kimutai. This case continues from The Crime Ledger: October 1, 2026.
State counsel Jalson Makori opposed bail for all seven, citing a risk of witness interference. Justice Muteti is set to rule on bail on Oct. 9 at 10 a.m., The Star reports. The charge sheet says Dr Mutiso was killed at about 9:30 a.m. on July 29 on Mawensi Road in Kilimani. In an affidavit reported by Citizen Digital, her husband, David Ndetei, asked the court to keep the accused in custody and said he and his wife had been threatened before her death. All seven are presumed innocent.
Turin: Widow and New Partner Arrested Over Killing
Carabinieri in Turin arrested a 45-year-old woman and her new partner, 52, at dawn Tuesday on a custody order for the premeditated murder of her husband, Mikel Rroku, Sky TG24 and RaiNews report. Flynn, a former music pastor who appeared briefly on “American Idol” in 2013, told the court he had failed his marriage vows but insisted, “I am not lying when I say I did not kill my wife.” Relatives read statements from the couple’s two daughters, who were home at the time, WHIO reports.
Durban: Judge Splits Charges in AKA Trial
Judge Nomfundo Sipunzi on Tuesday ordered that six charges facing accused No. 3, Siyanda Eddie Myeza, be tried separately from the case over the killings of rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and chef Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, EWN and IOL report. “Accused 3 … shall stand trial on counts 12 to 17 … separate from Accused 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7,” she ruled, with reasons to follow in her full judgment. This case continues from The Crime Ledger: October 5, 2026.
The separated counts relate to a May 2022 shooting that IOL places on Jan Smuts Highway in Mayville. The State, led by KwaZulu-Natal Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Lawrence Gcaba, opposed the split, and investigating officer Kumarasan Pillay said in an affidavit that the same firearm was used in both shootings.
