Naha: Marine Case Referred to Prosecutors

Okinawa prefectural police on Monday referred Lance Cpl. Ballard, stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, was arrested Sunday. Police say she died of asphyxiation after he “pressed on her neck,” a police spokesman told Stars and Stripes, and that he denies the allegations. This case continues from The Crime Ledger: October 4, 2026.

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi told parliament Monday that the case is a “heinous crime” and urged full U.S. cooperation, Kyodo reports. Okinawa Gov. Madrid: Son Held After Parents Beaten to Death

National Police arrested a 36-year-old man in the early hours of Monday on suspicion of killing his parents in their home on Paseo de los Húsares in Cuatro Vientos, in Madrid’s Latina district, COPE and EFE report. Officers forced the door with a battering ram and found both parents dead with injuries consistent with blows from a metal dumbbell, according to police sources cited by COPE and EFE.

The son was barricaded in a room and was subdued with a Taser before his arrest, both outlets report. COPE, citing EFE, says he spent about ten months in pretrial detention after a 2024 standoff in Fregenal de la Sierra, Badajoz. El Mundo reports the same prior case. He is not fully named here because outlets differ on the surname. The Homicides group of the National Police is investigating. No formal court disposition beyond the arrest had been reported by late morning. He is presumed innocent.

Neither man entered a plea. Judge Catarina Sjolin-Knight adjourned the case for a plea and trial preparation hearing on Dec. 18 and set a provisional trial date of March 22, 2027, both outlets report. There were no bail applications, and both were remanded in custody. They are presumed innocent.
