Arrests came in Moss Side, where a man was flown back from Turkey over a 2020 double murder, in Warsaw over an alleged plot against Prime Minister Donald Tusk, in Colombia over a 1995 killing in France, and in New York over three Albanian blood-feud murders. Courts sentenced a CVLT ring leader to 20 years in Paris, three people to death in Colombo, “Capi Ortiz” to 27 years in Villavicencio and a man to life in Rosario. Bangladesh’s war crimes tribunal indicted 26 people over the Uttara killings of July 2024, Washington pledged cooperation over the death of Anna Yagi on Okinawa, and leaked juror messages could reopen the Daphne Caruana Galizia case in Malta. New charges came in Chicago, Cleveland, Texas, Putnam County, Saline County, Covington, Fenton, Tamarac, Tuscaloosa, Bradley Stoke, Brisbane, Dijon, Lambaré and Diepsloot. Three of today’s cases continue from earlier Ledgers.

Eric Lewis, 35, was charged with murder on Saturday after Philadelphia police officer Shane Seiber was shot dead on a West Philadelphia porch in the early hours of the day. Lewis appeared in Municipal Court early Sunday and is being held without bail at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported, citing court records.

The call came in at 12:22 a.m. on Saturday: a man with a gun on a porch at 140 N. 52nd St., Commissioner Kevin Bethel said. Officers were met with “significant gunfire” as they approached the porch, he said. Seiber and a 33-year-old partner went to the house, and as they stepped onto the porch, police said, Lewis opened fire. Seiber was hit three times. His partner was hit 12 times.

Police said Lewis took one of the officers’ guns, ran down an alleyway and fired at other officers as they flooded the block, setting off a standoff and a neighbourhood lockdown. None of them was struck. At one point he climbed a tree beside the house, where officers spotted him and ordered him down, police told the Inquirer. Two handguns and a shotgun were recovered at his arrest.

District Attorney Larry Krasner called it “a brutal, senseless, horrific killing.” He said Lewis fired at nine officers in addition to the two he hit. The charges include murder, homicide of a law enforcement officer, attempted murder of the wounded officer, attempted murder of nine more officers he allegedly shot at, two counts of disarming a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer and weapons offences, WHYY and the Inquirer reported. Krasner said a preliminary arraignment and bail hearing would follow and that it was “premature” to say whether mental illness or substance use played a part. Court records show Lewis had earlier arrests for gun, drug and assault charges between 2013 and 2020, 6abc reported. In 2015 he pleaded guilty to weapons charges from a 2013 incident, including carrying a firearm in public, and was given five years of probation with orders for a drug and alcohol assessment and a mental health evaluation, WHYY reported from state court records. District Council 33 confirmed he was a union member employed by the Philadelphia Water Department.

Seiber, 40, was a 10-year veteran of the 19th District. Commissioner Kevin Bethel said his wife and family reached his bedside before he died, and that he leaves a 7-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter. The wounded officer, a father of five, was in stable but serious condition at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. “He’s not out of the woods yet,” Bethel said. Gov. Josh Shapiro ordered flags across Pennsylvania to fly at half-staff. Mayor Cherelle Parker called on the state to expand involuntary commitment laws to cover substance use disorder. The Defender Association of Philadelphia, which represents Lewis, declined to comment. Lewis is presumed innocent.

Naha: Rubio Calls Tokyo as Marine Held in Anna Yagi’s Death

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi on Saturday and pledged to “fully cooperate” with the investigation into the death of Anna Yagi, 39, a week after a U.S. Marine was arrested on suspicion of robbing and murdering her in a hotel in Naha. Japan’s Foreign Ministry said Motegi expressed “regret” over the case and that the two sides agreed to consult on measures to stop it happening again.

Okinawa police arrested Lance Cpl. Devin Jacob Ballard, 20, on Oct. 4. He is stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma with the III Marine Expeditionary Force, and he has denied wrongdoing, Reuters reported via CTV. The case has been referred to prosecutors, MENAFN reported.

Police allege Ballard stole Yagi’s wallet and another item and killed her between 2:10 a.m. and 4:17 a.m. on Oct. 3 at a hotel in Naha’s Wakasa district, an Okinawa Prefectural Police spokesman told Stars and Stripes. Security footage showed her entering the hotel with him and him leaving alone, police said. A hotel employee found her unconscious after the pair failed to check out and called the fire department. Police spotted Ballard the following night in an Okinawa nightlife district, questioned him and arrested him. Local media citing police reported she appeared to have been strangled with a cord, the BBC reported. He is in Japanese custody because the alleged crime was unrelated to official duties.

The case has set off protests in Okinawa and Tokyo. U.S. personnel on the island were placed under a month-long curfew and banned from drinking while they go through discipline training, Reuters reported. On Friday Okinawa’s prefectural assembly passed a resolution demanding a “fundamental review” of the Status of Forces Agreement, and Tokyo summoned the U.S. ambassador and the senior U.S. commander on Okinawa to lodge formal protests, MENAFN reported. Okinawa Governor Genta Koja told Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi that “past disciplinary measures and human rights education implemented by the US military have not worked at all,” Al Jazeera reported. Lt. Gen. Benjamin T. Watson, the senior U.S. officer on Okinawa, imposed a 30-day midnight to 5 a.m. curfew. Ballard is presumed innocent. This case continues from The Crime Ledger: October 4, 2026.

Warsaw: Man Arrested Over Alleged Plot to Attack Donald Tusk

Polish police on Sunday, Oct. 11, detained a man suspected of threatening and planning an attack on Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said. “The man threatening an attack has been detained,” Tusk wrote on X, praising police for their “swift and decisive action.” Officials did not name the man, say what kind of attack was allegedly planned, or say what charge he faces.

Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the minister who oversees Poland’s intelligence services, said earlier on Sunday that the information first reached the State Protection Service, which passed it to police. He spoke after an emergency meeting of the security services, police and the Interior Ministry, convened at short notice after the tip-off. “We take this matter extremely seriously,” Dobrzyński said, adding that authorities saw a “high probability” the threats would be carried out. He said the services are receiving a growing number of threats each month, the Associated Press reported. Government spokesperson Adam Szłapka said Tusk learned of the threat first thing on Sunday morning and called it “exceptionally concerning.”

The arrest capped a week of violence in Poland. Three knife attacks at schools in four days left one person dead and many wounded, DW reported. On Wednesday a 19-year-old student injured nine people at a vocational school in Mazovia province. On Thursday a 15-year-old killed a school caretaker and injured two others at his former school in Leszczydół-Nowiny; Tusk said he wore a helmet camera to film it. On Saturday a 21-year-old woman wounded three women at an adult education school in Warsaw. Police have since detained 117 people for carrying knives or dangerous weapons or threatening schools, and checked 64,000 schools.

Speaking at a government crisis meeting on Sunday, Tusk called the school attacks “spontaneous actions” driven by online “glorification of violence,” saying, “We are not dealing with any group organized on a big scale.” He acknowledged that “some of the people detained are active in the ultraright environment.” Officials have not linked the man detained on Sunday to the school attacks. He is presumed innocent.

Paris: CVLT Discord Ring Leader Rohan Rane Gets 20 Years

A special criminal court in Paris on Friday, Oct. 9, sentenced Rohan Rane, 29, to 20 years in prison after convicting him as a leader of CVLT, an online network that recruited vulnerable children on Discord in the United States, Britain and Canada and coerced them into making violent and sexual videos. Lawyer Hippolyte Marquetty, who represents five U.S. victims, told the Associated Press Rane was found guilty of sexual extortion and acts of torture against a minor, and that 20 years was the maximum for those charges. France 24, as reported by The Hindu, described the conviction as extortion committed as part of an organised gang, aggravated by acts of torture and barbarity. Prosecutors had asked for 30 years. Rane showed no reaction at the verdict.

The trial opened on Oct. 5 and was held mostly behind closed doors because it involved the abuse of children. According to court documents obtained by the AP, the children were recruited to become “slaves” to the group. Videos found on Rane’s computer and phone showed young girls harming themselves on his orders, including carving the name “Rohan” or swastikas into their skin. About 20 victims were identified, most of them American girls and many under 15, and six, now aged 18 to 21, filed complaints, prosecutors said. The U.S. Justice Department has said CVLT espoused neo-Nazism, nihilism and paedophilia.

Rane, from Pune, came to France in 2016 to study at a business school in Antibes, where police arrested him in 2021 after alerts from U.S. authorities. He first called it a “misunderstanding,” then admitted being the Discord group’s administrator, the documents say. The woman he described to investigators as his online girlfriend in the U.S. was in fact one of the victims. After his detention he kept using Discord, and in June 2021 was still urging minors aged 15 and 16 to join “his cult.” Writings covered in swastikas were found in his cell in February 2022, and he was placed in solitary confinement. A psychiatrist found him in denial.

In the U.S., Kaleb Christopher Merritt, 26, of Spring, Texas, pleaded guilty to engaging in a child exploitation enterprise and faces sentencing in January. Clint Jordan Lopaka Nahooikaika Borge, 42, and Collin John Thomas Walker, 24, were also named by the Justice Department as members. “They have shattered lives,” Marquetty said. Rane’s lawyer did not respond to the AP. French authorities chose to finish the French case before considering extradition.

Valletta: Fenech Juror Wrote ‘Not Even Her Children Mourn’ Daphne

A juror who voted to acquit Maltese businessman Yorgen Fenech of complicity in the 2017 car-bomb assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia wrote “not even her children mourn her” in a WhatsApp group with fellow jurors, according to messages uncovered by police and first reported by Times of Malta, Italpress and Lovin Malta reported on Sunday, Oct. 11. The messages are expected to feature in the prosecution’s bid to overturn the acquittal and secure a retrial.

The nine jurors set up the group, called “Il-linja tal-verità” (The Line of Truth), two days after the Sept. 2 verdict, which followed a 55-day trial. The comment was posted hours before thousands rallied in Valletta against the verdict. Another juror replied with a message that appeared to mock murder middleman Melvin Theuma’s references to his faith in God.

Police found the chat during investigations after four jurors were arrested last month. One juror is under investigation for failing to disclose earlier social media activity, including a 2013 post criticising the police guard outside the journalist’s home and a 2020 post about Theuma and Fenech. Another shared a 2021 Facebook post opposing compensation for her family. A reserve juror wrote in March 2023 that he could not stand the sight of her face. Jurors were required to declare such posts during selection, and Judge Edwina Grima had told them to set aside any prior opinions.

Prosecutors alleged at trial that Fenech financed and commissioned the €150,000 plot. He denied it, and his defence argued that Keith Schembri, former chief of staff to Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, was responsible, Lovin Malta reported. Fenech stands acquitted.

Speaking at a protest concert in Valletta on Oct. 4, after the messages were found, her son Matthew Caruana Galizia said some jurors had expressed a desire to “continue hurting” his family. Repubblika called the comment “profoundly cruel,” saying, “No one should presume to measure their grief, still less mock it.” It has called a protest for 7 p.m. on Oct. 16, the ninth anniversary of the bombing, starting outside Parliament in Valletta. A public inquiry found the Maltese state bore responsibility for creating a climate that enabled her murder.

Moss Side: Man Flown Back From Turkey and Arrested Over 2020 Double Murder

A 36-year-old man was detained in Turkey, flown back to England on Saturday, Oct. 10, and arrested at Stansted Airport by Greater Manchester Police on suspicion of murdering Junior Ajose and Cheriff Tall, who were shot dead at a lockdown party in Moss Side more than six years ago, GMP said, according to the BBC, Hits Radio and the Mirror. He remains in custody and has not been named or charged. GMP called the arrest “a significant step” in the investigation, known as Operation Tarnbrook.

Ajose, 36, and Tall, 21, who did not know each other, were both shot in the head shortly before 1 a.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2020, in a car park off Caythorpe Street, and died in hospital, the BBC reported. Police estimate 300 to 400 people were in the car park that night, many of them socialising, and believe some still hold “crucial eyewitness accounts.”

Over six years, detectives have executed numerous warrants, arrested and questioned several people, and seized mobile phones and other items for forensic examination, GMP said. The force issued a fresh appeal on the fifth anniversary of the killings last year.

“This arrest demonstrates our unwavering commitment to securing justice for Junior and Cheriff and their loved ones,” said Det. Chief Insp. Neil Higginson of GMP’s Major Incident Team. “While this arrest marks a significant development in our investigation, our work is far from over. We continue to appeal for information that could help us establish the full circumstances of what happened that night and identify any outstanding suspects.” He added: “We know that some people who were there that night have not yet spoken with us. The smallest piece of information could prove to be vital.”

A £50,000 reward remains on offer for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of those responsible. GMP asks anyone with information to call 0161 856 3691 quoting incident 221 of 21/06/20, use the Major Incident Public Portal for Operation Tarnbrook, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. The arrested man is presumed innocent.

Marbella: Swedish Teenager Jailed Without Bail in Surgeon Alexander Aslani’s Killing

The duty investigating court in Marbella (Court of Instance, Investigation Section No. 1) on Saturday, Oct. 10, ordered the 18-year-old Swedish man arrested over the killing of plastic surgeon Alexander Aslani held in provisional prison, without bail and with communication allowed, official sources at the High Court of Justice of Andalusia confirmed, La Voz del Sur and La Opinión de Málaga reported. Police believe he was a hired gunman who had help from others, and further arrests have not been ruled out. He has not been named.

Aslani, 57, a German national, was the founder and medical director of the Cirumed plastic surgery clinic in Marbella’s Río Real area. He had headed plastic surgery at the Quirón Málaga and Quirón Marbella hospitals from 2008 to 2018, La Opinión de Málaga reported. On the afternoon of Wednesday, Oct. 7, a man dressed in black, his face covered by a helmet and hood, arrived at the clinic by motorcycle, walked into the office where Aslani was with his partner and shot him several times in the head. The gunman rode off toward the Bello Horizonte residential area. Paramedics could not save the surgeon. Outlets put the time at about 5 p.m. or 6 p.m.

Police arrested the suspect the next afternoon, Thursday, Oct. 8, in Benalmádena, less than 24 hours after the shooting. La Voz del Sur reported that officers traced him through the getaway vehicle, whose plate had been picked up by motorway camera readers. Police sources told La Opinión de Málaga he was about to leave the country. According to El Confidencial, as cited by La Voz del Sur, he first denied it was him, then refused before the judge to say who ordered the killing.

The case is under judicial secrecy, and the UDEV homicide group in Marbella is not ruling out any line, including the involvement of others close to the clinic. El Mundo reported the main line is a dissatisfied patient acting directly or through someone else. It said the inquiry is focused on relatives of a Colombian patient who died after a cosmetic operation in Marbella and who, according to the paper, blamed the surgeon. El Mundo said police also examined a patient Aslani refused and refunded, who then threatened him. Months before his death, Aslani had reported receiving threats, La Voz del Sur reported. He was married with two children and had no known links to drug trafficking or organised crime. This case continues from The Crime Ledger: October 9, 2026.

Nashville: Christa Pike Leaves Hospital and Returns to Prison

Christa Pike was discharged from a Nashville-area hospital on Saturday and returned to the Debra K. Johnson Rehabilitation Center, the women’s prison where she has been held for more than 30 years, her attorneys said, 10 days after Tennessee failed to execute her. She will keep receiving medical care in prison, said Stephen Ferrell and Luke Ihnen of Federal Defender Services of Eastern Tennessee and Randy Spivey and Kelly Gleason of the Tennessee Office of the Post Conviction Defender.

Pike, 50, the only woman on Tennessee’s death row, was condemned for the 1995 murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer. On Sept. 30 at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution she was given two lethal doses of pentobarbital, appeared to keep breathing, and was rushed to hospital unconscious, critically ill and with severe arm injuries.

A motion her lawyers filed in Davidson County Chancery Court, reported by ABC News, says she could be heard “crying, whimpering, and breathing loudly” and said her arm “feels like it’s about to burst open.” At least seven needles were used to get IV access, one “bent in a 90-degree angle” when removed, and both arms were “swollen, burned, and blistered” when she reached hospital. Chancellor I’Ashea Myles granted the motion on Wednesday, ordering prison officials to preserve all evidence of the attempt, including messages, NPR reported. “The state has made no promises that Ms. Pike will not be subject to a future execution,” attorney Luke Ihnen told the court, CBS News reported. Her lawyers have renewed calls for Gov. Bill Lee to commute her sentence to life without parole. Lee has ordered an independent review of the Department of Correction and paused the execution still scheduled this year, WVLT reported, and the Sydney Morning Herald reported the review also covers a failed attempt on Tony Carruthers in May. Correction Commissioner Frank Strada has offered his resignation and is expected to leave this month.

In hospital Pike regained consciousness, began walking with help and eating a regular diet, her lawyers said earlier in the week. They told WVLT it could take months to assess possible long-term cognitive effects. The Death Penalty Information Center says she is the only known U.S. prisoner of the modern era to survive after actually receiving lethal chemicals. Pike was 18 when she and her boyfriend, Tadaryl Shipp, killed Slemmer, a fellow Knoxville Job Corps student, on the University of Tennessee campus. Shipp received life in prison without parole, NPR reported.

“She is grateful to the first responders and her medical team for their care in these extraordinary circumstances,” her lawyers said. This case continues from The Crime Ledger: October 8, 2026.

Colombian National Police arrested Antonio Márquez Gómez, known as “El Descuartizador” (the Dismemberer), in La Pintada, in southwestern Antioquia, on an Interpol red notice issued at France’s request, the police said on Saturday, Oct. 10, El Colombiano, Infobae and El Heraldo reported. French authorities want him over the killing and dismemberment of his former partner, Corinne Di Dio, in France in 1995. He was located 31 years after the crime.

Col. Luis Fernando Muñoz González, commander of the Antioquia police department, confirmed the arrest. According to the police statement, he was found through intelligence work, surveillance and criminal investigation, and through information shared between Colombian and European police forces. The operation was coordinated with French authorities and supported by the French Embassy in Colombia.

Police say he was living under a false identity, hid in remote places and had altered his fingerprints to defeat identification checks, Infobae and Hora 13 reported from the police statement. El Colombiano noted that those allegations still have to be established in court.

Police also say the information they gathered links him to drug trafficking and to transnational organised crime structures active in Europe and Latin America, including networks operating between Spain and Morocco. Those links are under investigation, and authorities are waiting on the results to decide whether to bring further charges, Infobae reported.

He has been placed at the disposal of Colombia’s Foreign Ministry and the Attorney General’s Office (Fiscalía), El Colombiano reported. The French Embassy will be notified so that France can prepare a formal extradition request or proceed under the applicable international agreements. Police did not give his age or say how long he had been in Colombia, and the French case file, including whether he was tried in absentia, has not been made public. He is presumed innocent.

A 36-year-old pastor wanted for the murder of a four-month-old baby girl and the rape of her 43-year-old mother was arrested on the afternoon of Saturday, Oct. 10, after police found him hiding, with injuries, in a back room in a Diepsloot informal settlement, Gauteng police spokesperson Col. Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said. Detectives and Crime Intelligence tracked him down after an intensive investigation, IOL, SABC News, Nova News and the Citizen reported. Police have not named him or said how he was injured.

He is the third suspect in custody. His two wives appeared in the Atteridgeville Magistrates’ Court on Friday, Oct. 9, and he is expected to appear on Monday, Oct. 12. Police have opened cases of kidnapping, rape and murder.

According to the police statement first issued on Oct. 7, the mother went with her pastor and his wife to the Hennops River near the R511 road for a ritual. The wife stayed behind with the baby while the pastor and the woman walked toward the river. “It is alleged that the woman was subsequently raped and tied up,” Nevhuhulwi said. The woman freed herself and ran to a nearby construction site for help. A private security company responded and alerted police. Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi credited the provincial roads department’s maintenance and construction teams for raising the alarm, which led to a search that included a helicopter, Nova News reported.

A team of Crime Scene Management, Search and Rescue, general detectives, Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) detectives and drone operators searched for the infant. The pastor’s 24-year-old wife was found and questioned, and she led investigators to a shallow grave where the baby’s body was found on Oct. 7. eNCA reported the baby was found in Atteridgeville, and Jacaranda FM in the west of Tshwane. Nevhuhulwi told eNCA she could not yet confirm the child’s injuries. Police told eNCA the pastor was believed to have been living in Diepsloot with the mother and baby.

“The circumstances surrounding this whole ordeal are shocking, but also barbaric,” said Gauteng government spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga. Police ask anyone with information to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111. All three suspects are presumed innocent.

Israel Police arrested a man in his 40s at an apartment in Beersheba early on Sunday, Oct. 11, after he called officers and told them, “I stabbed my wife,” the Jerusalem Post reported. Nania Melda, in her 40s, died of her wounds. Police opened a murder investigation and said the man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of involvement.

Magen David Adom paramedic Yarin Ben-David and senior EMT Rafael Cohen said they were led to a woman who “was unconscious and had numerous penetrating wounds to her body.” They treated her and took her to Soroka Medical Center unconscious and in critical condition, where she was later pronounced dead. N12 News reported that the couple’s five-year-old son may have been in the apartment at the time.

A cousin told the Post the couple had been married for 25 years and divorced three or four months ago, but that he still had a key. “He had a key, and he entered the house,” the cousin said. “Most of her family is in Ethiopia.” A neighbour, Esther, said Melda “was a good woman, a good mother, and a good neighbor” who served on the building committee. Another neighbour, Rinat, who lived above her for three years, said she never heard shouting from the apartment, had spoken to Melda on Friday while she cleaned the stairs, and that the couple had recently been in Ethiopia. “He was a quiet person. She was a smiling woman,” Rinat said.

Vardit Danziger, CEO of the non-profit No to Violence Against Women, called for a “properly funded, properly staffed national program” against domestic violence. The man has not been named. No charge or remand hearing had been reported by Sunday, and he is presumed innocent.

Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal-2 on Sunday, Oct. 11, framed charges of crimes against humanity against 26 people, including former Awami League lawmaker Mohammad Habib Hasan of Dhaka-18 and former Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Habibur Rahman, over the killing of 11 people in Dhaka’s Uttara during the July 2024 uprising, bdnews24, The Daily Star and The Business Standard reported. The three-judge panel, led by Chairman Justice Nozrul Islam Chowdhury with Justices Md Manjurul Bachid and Noor Mohammad Shahriar Kabir, set Nov. 4 for the prosecution’s opening statement and the start of witness testimony.

Eight accused were brought to the dock and denied the charges. They include Mirza Salahuddin, former additional deputy commissioner of the DMP’s Uttara Division; Md Mojibur Rahman, former chief of Uttara East police station; former constable Md Hossain Ali; and local Awami League, Jubo League and Swechchhasebak League leaders. Eighteen are absconding and are represented by state-appointed lawyers. Among them are Hasan, Rahman, former Uttara deputy commissioner Kazi Ashraful Azim, former Uttara West officer-in-charge BM Farman Ali, and former councillor Jahangir Hossain, known as Yubraj.

The first charge covers July 18, 2024, when police allegedly fired indiscriminately on protesters on the Dhaka to Mymensingh highway and around Uttara. Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho, an MBA student at Bangladesh University of Professionals, was shot dead in Sector 3 while helping carry the injured to hospital and handing out water and biscuits, the charge says. Jahiduzzaman Tanvin, Sheikh Fahmin Zafar, Md Shakil Hossain, Md Sabbir Hossain and Sajib Sarker were also shot dead. Uber driver Mokhlesur Rahman, known as Durjoy, was allegedly crushed under the rear wheel of a police armoured personnel carrier, and his body was thrown into the Turag River to hide it. Five people, including Mehedi Hasan, were shot and seriously wounded.

The second charge covers July 19, when firing allegedly resumed. Ridwan Sharif, known as Riyad Joy, Md Sabbir Islam, Md Asadullah and Naima Sultana were killed, and Raisul Rahman Ratul was shot and seriously wounded, the prosecution alleges. Prosecutors describe both sets of killings as planned, widespread and systematic. All 26 are presumed innocent.

The Colombo High Court has sentenced a young married couple and the wife’s younger brother to death for the murder of Ruchira Lakmal Perera, 35, who was hacked to death in Meethotamulla, Wellampitiya, on Dec. 11, 2017, Ada Derana reported on Sunday, Oct. 11. The three were tried under Section 296 of Sri Lanka’s Penal Code, murder, read with Section 32, acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention. Judge Rashmi Singappuli ruled that the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that all three acted with common intention. The accused have not been named in the report.

According to evidence in court, Perera lived near the accused and was a relative of the wife, the third accused. He had allegedly assaulted her several days earlier, was arrested and released on bail, and was walking home after his release when he was killed. Between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. he met her brother, the second accused, and a group of friends, and allegedly abused them verbally, saying they were responsible for what had happened to him. The wife then arrived with her husband, the first accused.

Prosecutors said the husband was carrying two machetes. He put one on the ground and attacked Perera with the other, and the brother picked up the second and joined in. According to the evidence, the wife saw that Perera was still alive and urged the two men to kill him. The three fled with the wife’s child. Police, called by telephone, found Perera dead and later examined CCTV footage from nearby cameras. The post-mortem found 21 serious cut injuries, and the injuries to his head and neck caused his death.

In court the husband said Perera started the dispute by assaulting his wife and her brother near their home, that his wife was in hospital for six days, and that after his release on bail Perera came back, damaged their fence and abused them. The brother admitted “a mistake” but said Perera attacked first. He said he had worked abroad for two years to save for a house, never meant to kill, and asked the court for forgiveness. Relying on eyewitness testimony, CCTV footage and medical reports, the judge rejected the defence claims of private defence and provocation.

Amritsar: Three More Arrested in Gujarat Over Mad Sandhu Killing

Gujarat’s Anti-Terrorist Squad and Valsad police arrested three more men in Vapi on Saturday, Oct. 10, in the killing of Punjabi influencer and makeup artist Madhusudan Singh Sandhu, known as Mad Sandhu, the ATS said on Sunday. They were named as Harsimranjit Singh, known as Simu Singga, Fateh Singh and Arman Singh, and were traced after Punjab police shared information with the ATS, Rediff, ETV Bharat and Daijiworld reported. Police have not said what role each is accused of playing.

Sandhu was shot at about 6 p.m. on Oct. 3 on Loharka Road in Amritsar, where he had gone to collect his car from a car-washing centre. Two men arrived on a motorcycle, approached him and fired two to three rounds before fleeing, according to case details reported by the New Indian Express. He died on the way to hospital. The case was registered at Cantonment police station on a complaint from his father, Bhupinder Singh, under Sections 103 (murder) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act, the Times of India reported.

On Oct. 8 the Ahmedabad Crime Branch arrested the alleged shooter in the city’s Vadaj area after a tip-off and technical surveillance, the New Indian Express reported, naming him as Parminder Prasad, known as Parminder Kaka. Police sources said he rode to the scene with an associate and opened fire. Amritsar Police Commissioner Harmanbir Singh Gill later announced six arrests, including the alleged main shooter, whom the Times of India named as Parminder Singh, known as Kaka, of Lohian Khas in Jalandhar Rural. The other five were Amandeep Singh, Paramvir Singh, Baljinder Singh alias Lali, Balraj Singh alias Bunty, and Vikas Singh.

After the killing, a social media account in the name of gangster Goldy Dhillon claimed responsibility, alleging Sandhu was “spoiling the new generation” and warning others who post “objectionable content.” Police said the authenticity of that claim was still being verified. About three months earlier, a Nihang leader, Manpreet Singh Khalsa, had objected to Sandhu’s videos and dressing style, and Sandhu had said he had changed and that old videos were being recirculated, the Times of India reported. Investigators are trying to establish the motive and who planned and paid for the attack. All of the accused are presumed innocent.

Chicago: Man Charged in Stabbing of CTA Janitor Julian Mobley at Damen Station

Chevazz Campbell, 37, was charged on Sunday, Oct. 11, with first-degree murder, armed robbery and carrying weapons on the CTA in the stabbing death of Julian Mobley, 41, a CTA rail janitor killed on Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Damen/Lake Green Line station in the 2000 block of West Lake Street, Chicago police said, according to ABC7 Chicago. Police said Campbell has previous felony convictions. He was due in bond court on Sunday.

Police said the attack began at about 2:59 p.m. when a man got into an argument with Mobley. It turned physical and the man stabbed him in the neck and ran west. An initial police report obtained by the Chicago Tribune says the man, coming down the station stairs, sprayed Mobley in the face with an “unknown substance” and stabbed him in the neck with scissors. Chicago Fire Department personnel found Mobley in a utility room, and he was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital.

ATU Local 308, the union for CTA workers, gives a different account of how it began. “Our Brother was trying to diffuse a fare dispute after a rider sprayed our Customer Service Assistant with mace. He was then tragically stabbed to death,” union president Pennie McCoach said. “This is not a tragedy, this is a safety failure.”

According to an arrest report obtained by the Tribune, a 37-year-old man walked into the Englewood (7th) District police station late Thursday and identified himself as the person who had stabbed someone at the Damen stop. The CTA said it shared surveillance footage with investigators. Green Line trains bypassed the station until service was restored at about 8 p.m.

Mobley joined the CTA in 2018. He had been married for 20 years and had two children, aged 14 and 18 months, McCoach said. “I’m still in shock because this was just so out of the blue,” his daughter Yara told ABC7. Mayor Brandon Johnson said Mobley was “senselessly murdered while selflessly stepping in to protect a fellow colleague.” The union said he is the second CTA employee killed on the job this year, after switchman Thomas Kevin Barlow was shot in June. Campbell is presumed innocent.

Matthew Allen Chambers, 39, of Cleveland, Texas, and Meaghan Michell Herrod, 30, of Shepherd, the parents of two young children who died in an RV fire in August, have each been charged with two counts of murder, Bluebonnet News reported on Oct. 10. Bond was set at $500,000 per charge, $1 million for each defendant.

The fire broke out on the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 11, in an RV on County Road 3819 in the Cleveland area of Liberty County. It was reported at about 5:25 a.m., and firefighters who went inside found the two children dead, Montgomery County Police Reporter reported at the time, according to Hoodline. That outlet identified them as Mavryck Len Chambers, 3, and his sister, Skylar Jayne Chambers, 2. A third child first reported trapped was later found safe at a grandmother’s home. The RV was completely destroyed.

Cleveland Fire Chief Sean Anderson said at the time that family members were on the property when the fire started but could not reach the children. ABC13 reported, citing Anderson, that the parents were in the area. The children’s grandfather identified them to ABC13 as a 3-year-old boy and his 2-year-old sister. The bodies were taken to the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsies. The Liberty County Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the cause, with the Montgomery County Fire Marshal also involved, Montgomery County Police Reporter reported.

No details have been released on the autopsy findings, the cause of the fire, or what evidence led to murder charges two months later. Neither the Liberty County District Attorney nor the sheriff’s office had issued a public statement by Sunday. Murder under Section 19.02 of the Texas Penal Code is a first-degree felony. Both parents are presumed innocent.

Michael David Ludwick, 20, is charged with murder, and his father, Joshua David Ludwick, 38, is charged with murder as a party to the crime, after Zachary Brandon Smith, 19, was found shot dead along the banks of Rooty Creek in Putnam County, Georgia, on Friday, Oct. 9, Sheriff Howard Sills said. Both men, from Madison, are held in the Putnam County Jail.

Smith’s body was found at about 6:40 p.m. at Flat Rock, a couple of hundred yards from the Rooty Creek bridge on Pea Ridge Road, about eight miles south of Eatonton, the Eatonton Messenger and WSB-TV reported. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said he had been shot multiple times in the chest with a rifle. As of Saturday morning the rifle had not been found, Sills told the Messenger. Smith was living in Milledgeville, though his driver’s licence gives an Eatonton address.

Deputies found a witness to the shooting, who identified the son as the shooter and the father as a party to the crime, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies from Putnam, Morgan and Walton counties went to the Ludwicks’ residence in Madison and arrested both men at about 10:45 p.m., about four hours after the body was found. Sills told the Messenger the son was arrested in his living room. “I had talked with the boy’s daddy on the phone before we got there and he was waiting on us across the street,” Sills said. “He was later taken into custody, too, and has been cooperative with us, and actually been of assistance.”

Asked about a motive, Sills said investigators were still sorting that out, but “it appears to be an insignificant discord.” The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing. No court date has been announced. Both men are presumed innocent.

Dickie Johnson is being held in the Saline County Detention Facility on charges of capital murder, a Class Y felony; terroristic act, a Class B felony; driving while intoxicated, a Class A misdemeanor; and endangering the welfare of a minor, a Class A misdemeanor, after Troy Hendrix, 30, was shot dead on Friday, Oct. 9, the Saline County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies were sent to the 700 block of Martin Road at about 4 p.m. after reports of a shooting. They found Hendrix with a gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel, the sheriff’s office said in a release.

Johnson had left before deputies arrived. After a search of the surrounding area, officers found him a short distance away and took him into custody without further incident, MySaline reported from the release. As of Saturday he was held with no bond set, the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported.

The sheriff’s office has not said how Hendrix and Johnson knew each other, what led to the shooting, or which minor the endangerment charge concerns. “No further information is available for release at this time,” the office said in the statement carried by KATV. Officials said the investigation remains ongoing.

Johnson is presumed innocent, and no court date has been announced.

Johnson’s age is reported as 72 by the sheriff’s release as carried by KATV and MySaline, and as 77 by the Democrat-Gazette.

Jacob Combs, 21, of Covington, is charged with murder in the shooting death of a man at the Speedway gas station at the corner of Fourth and Philadelphia streets in Covington early Saturday, Oct. 10, the Covington Police Department said.

Officers were dispatched at about 3:28 a.m. to a report of a shooting at the station. When they arrived they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. First responders took him to University of Cincinnati Medical Center in critical condition, and he was later pronounced dead, police said. Police have not released his name.

Police said a suspect was detained at the scene, and Combs was taken into custody a short time later. Capt. Justin Bradbury, a Covington police spokesperson, told FOX19 there is no threat to the public. Police have not said what led to the shooting, whether the two men knew each other, or whether a weapon was recovered.

Combs, whom police identified to WKRC as Andrew Jacob Combs, is held at the Kenton County Detention Center. He is due to be arraigned on Monday, Oct. 12, at 8:30 a.m. Under Kentucky law, KRS 507.020, a person commits murder by intentionally causing another’s death, or by wantonly creating a grave risk of death that kills someone under circumstances showing extreme indifference to human life, and murder is classed as a capital offense. Combs is presumed innocent.

Detectives ask anyone with information to call Covington police at 859-292-2234 or Cincinnati/NKY Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040.

Michael F. Miller, 71, was charged on Saturday, Oct. 10, with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the shooting death of a man in Fenton, in Jefferson County, Missouri, First Alert 4 (KMOV) reported.

Officers were called at about 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, to the 10 block of Ashwood Drive, where they found a man dead with gunshot wounds. Miller was still at the scene and was arrested. Investigators believe the confrontation began as a road rage incident, but they have not described what happened on the road or how the two men ended up at Ashwood Drive.

According to First Alert 4, Miller admitted to the shooting after he was detained, and a witness statement backs up that admission. Police have not said what weapon was used or whether the two men knew each other.

Under Missouri law, RSMo 565.020, first-degree murder means knowingly causing another person’s death after deliberation. It is a class A felony, and for an adult the only punishments are death or life in prison without parole. Armed criminal action, RSMo 571.015, applies to any felony committed with a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument. It carries 3 to 15 years, served consecutively to the underlying sentence.

The man who was killed has not been named. No bond amount, court date or defence attorney had been made public by Sunday. Miller is presumed innocent.

Tamarac, Fla.: Son Held Without Bond in Mother’s Stabbing Death

Manuel Antonio Farfán Cabello, 28, is held without bond at the Broward County Main Jail on a charge of first-degree premeditated murder in the stabbing death of his mother, Ylda Lucia Cabello Ynocente, 58, at the Tamarac home they shared, the Broward Sheriff’s Office and Broward County court records show, as reported by Local 10 News.

Deputies answered a report of a stabbing in the 5300 block of Northwest 28th Avenue, near Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, on Friday evening, Oct. 9. They found a woman with stab wounds. Fire rescue declared her dead at about 7:45 p.m. in the two-bedroom home, BSO said. Detectives say her son stabbed her several times. He was detained at the scene and arrested that night at 5301 NW 28th Ave. after investigators determined the stabbing was domestic, BSO said.

BSO’s dive team spent hours searching a lake across the street, and the sheriff’s office confirmed to NBC 6 they were looking for evidence. A neighbour, Tim Emerson, told NBC 6 he saw them searching his backyard and the trees. Neighbours told NBC 6 that deputies had been called to the home before, and one said Farfán Cabello had smashed all the home’s windows a few months earlier. That neighbour said Farfán Cabello knocked on his door on Friday afternoon asking for a cigarette, and that they noticed what appeared to be blood on him. Other neighbours told Local 10 that videos show him going from house to house asking for money that day.

Cabello Ynocente was a native of Huancayo, Peru, who studied accounting at the public university there, according to her Facebook account as described by Local 10. A neighbour told NBC 6 she was “very quiet.”

Prosecutors filed the case on Saturday. At his first appearance on Sunday morning a Broward judge ordered him held with no bond and ordered a medical evaluation. Circuit Judge George Odom is assigned to the case, Local 10 reported. BSO has not said what led to the stabbing. He is presumed innocent.

Tuscaloosa: Felony Murder Charge After Would-Be Robber Is Killed in Shootout

Daronte Collins, 20, of Oxford, Alabama, is held without bond in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on charges of felony murder, first-degree robbery, attempted murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle after his alleged partner was killed during a robbery attempt on Saturday evening, Oct. 10, the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit said.

Officers responded at about 7:30 p.m. to a report that a shooting victim was being taken to DCH Regional Medical Center from the 1000 block of Investigator Dornell Cousette Street. Investigators later determined the shooting happened in the parking lot of Magnolia Apartments at 5621 Highway 69 South, police said, according to ABC 33/40 and WVTM 13.

After processing the scene and interviewing multiple people involved and witnesses, investigators concluded that Collins and Kurtae’vious Earl Tyson, 20, also of Oxford, tried to rob a 25-year-old Tuscaloosa man, VCU Lt. Michael Hall said, according to the Tuscaloosa Thread. Shots were exchanged. Tyson was critically wounded and later died. The 25-year-old was not named and no charges against him were announced, the Thread reported. Police have not said who fired the shot that killed Tyson or what was being taken. The charge of shooting into an occupied vehicle indicates a vehicle was fired on, but police have not described it.

Under Alabama’s felony murder law, a person can be charged with murder when someone dies during certain serious felonies, including robbery, even if the person charged did not fire the fatal shot and even if the person who died was a participant in the crime, the Thread and the Calhoun Journal noted. Collins is held without bond under Aniah’s Law, which lets courts deny bail to people charged with certain violent offences.

Collins has not entered a plea. He is presumed innocent.

Forbes: Prosecutors Won’t Appeal Sentence for Molly Ticehurst’s Killer

The NSW Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said on Friday, Oct. 9, that it will not appeal the sentence of 28 years with a non-parole period of 20 years given to Daniel Billings, 31, for murdering his former partner, childcare worker Molly Ticehurst, 28, in Forbes in April 2024, Australian Associated Press (via the Canberra Times) and ABC News reported. “This decision was made in accordance with the prosecution guidelines,” an ODPP spokesperson said. The office had 28 days from the Sept. 11 sentencing to lodge an appeal.

Billings, a former mine worker, pleaded guilty early in the Local Court. Justice Natalie Adams in the NSW Supreme Court sitting at Orange found he smashed into Ticehurst’s bedroom window at her Forbes home before midnight on April 21, 2024, and stabbed her 15 times, AAP reported. ABC reported the court heard he broke in at 11:27 p.m., used a hunting knife and was gone less than a minute later. Adams found he killed her out of revenge, “extreme hatred” and retribution for her reporting sexual assault allegations to police.

Ticehurst ended their on-and-off relationship in December 2023, and he repeatedly threatened to break in and kill her, AAP reported. She reported his abuse to police in early April 2024, leading to sexual assault and stalking and intimidation charges. He spent one night in custody and was released on bail by a local court registrar about a fortnight before the murder, because there was no judge on duty that weekend. The court heard he became obsessed with the belief he had been wrongly accused and planned to kill her. He denies the earlier offences.

The Crown did not seek a life sentence but urged the judge to withhold the 25 per cent discount for an early plea. Adams said no case in NSW history had removed it entirely. She found his moral culpability reduced by a deprived childhood that led to chronic depression, gave a 20 per cent discount, and cut what would have been a 35-year term by seven years. He will be eligible for parole in 2044, aged 49.

Premier Chris Minns had called the sentence inadequate. Orange MP Phil Donato called the decision not to appeal “a gross injustice.” Ticehurst’s mother, Kate Shaw, is pressing Minns to release a government report on her daughter’s contact with the Staying Home Leaving Violence scheme, which had been held back until the legal process ended.

A1(M): Brother Charged With Murdering Sister Elena Chiriac in Motorway Crash

A second man has been charged over the death of Elena Chiriac, 22, of Newcastle upon Tyne, who was fatally injured in a crash on the A1(M) at Barton, north of Scotch Corner near Darlington, on Oct. 4, The Northern Echo and The York Press reported. Court papers name her for the first time.

Her brother, Florin Chiriac, 31, of Hampstead Road, Newcastle, is charged with her murder, with attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent to another man, and with dangerous driving. He has already appeared at Leeds Crown Court and was remanded in custody until a plea and trial preparation hearing at the same court in November, The York Press reported.

Christi Chiriac, 25, of the same address, is now charged with encouraging or assisting the commission of offences including murder and causing death by dangerous driving. Prosecutors accuse him of encouraging Florin to drive in a way that would lead to Elena’s death. He was remanded in custody to appear before York Magistrates’ Court this weekend. The papers do not say how the two men are related to each other.

North Yorkshire Police were called just after 6 p.m. on Oct. 4 to a crash involving a silver Ford Transit and a silver Volkswagen Golf, both travelling south. Police have not said which vehicle Elena was in, who the other man named in the attempted GBH charge is, or what led up to the crash. Officers first arrested two men, a 31-year-old from Newcastle and a 23-year-old from Grimsby, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. The 23-year-old was released with no further action.

Elena’s family is being supported by specially trained officers. Police asked any witnesses who have not yet come forward, or anyone with dashcam footage, to contact them through the Major Incident Public Portal or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting reference 12260195308. Both men are presumed innocent.

Gerald Bishop, 73, of Sherbourne Avenue, Bradley Stoke, has been charged with murder after a 71-year-old woman was found with serious injuries at an address on the same street, Avon and Somerset Police said. He has been remanded in custody and is due before Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Monday, Oct. 12, the BBC, LBC and Bristol Live reported.

Emergency services were called to the address at about 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Bishop was arrested at the scene. Police have not named the woman, said how she died, or described her relationship to Bishop.

“We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the woman’s grieving family at what will be a devastating time for them, and specially trained officers will provide them with ongoing support,” Supt. Karen Corrigan said on Friday. “The investigation is in its early stages, but we have arrested a man, who remains in police custody, while we seek to gain an understanding of this tragic incident.”

Corrigan said the death “will come as a great shock to the community, but we do not consider there to be any ongoing risk to the public.” She said there would be an increased police presence in the area over the following days to carry out enquiries and reassure residents, and that anyone with concerns could approach officers.

After the charge, a force spokesperson said: “We have maintained contact with the family of the victim who have been updated and will continue to be supported by specially trained officers. Our thoughts are with the family at this traumatic time.” The family has asked for privacy. Bishop is presumed innocent.

A 32-year-old Cornubia man is charged with murder after a 32-year-old Wishart man stabbed in the chest at a house on Barcelona Street in Wishart, in Brisbane’s south, died in hospital, Queensland Police said on Sunday, Oct. 11.

Emergency services were called to the two-storey house at about 4 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, after reports a man had been stabbed. Paramedics took him to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition, and he died overnight, police said. Nine News reported that he died on Sunday morning. Police have not released his name.

The accused was arrested on Saturday and first charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm. Police upgraded that to murder after the man died. He is also charged with contravening an order about information necessary to access information stored electronically. That charge applies when a person fails to comply with a court or police order to give officers access to a device, such as a passcode, under section 205A of Queensland’s Criminal Code. Police said the two men knew each other but have not described the relationship or a motive.

Forensic officers were still at the house on Sunday, dusting for fingerprints, ABC News reported. Police appealed for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area, or who has footage from nearby, to come forward, the Brisbane Times reported.

The man remains remanded in custody and is due before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday, Oct. 12, police said. Under section 305 of the Criminal Code, murder in Queensland carries a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment. He is presumed innocent, and police have not named him.

Dijon: Partner Charged With Killing Jamila Sabimbona, 53, as Daughter Plans March

The 34-year-old partner of Jamila Sabimbona, 53, has been formally placed under investigation (mis en examen) for homicide by a partner and remanded in custody pending trial over her death in her apartment in Dijon’s Fontaine d’Ouche district, the Dijon prosecutor’s office announced, France 3 Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and Seven Radio reported. The announcement came the day after her funeral. He has not been named.

The killing happened on the night of Wednesday, Sept. 23, to Thursday, Sept. 24. Police arrested the man at the scene in a state of severe agitation. France 3 reported that minutes earlier he had tried to jump from a second floor window. Sabimbona was found unconscious in the bedroom with injuries to her face and ribs. Despite first aid and resuscitation attempts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

After police custody, he was committed to La Chartreuse psychiatric hospital in Dijon because of his mental state, then brought before an investigating judge, France 3 and Seven Radio reported. He had been living with Sabimbona for only a few months. In his last interview he acknowledged “the exercise of violence,” France 3 reported.

Her only child, Alexandra, a mother of three, told France 3 a neighbour called her at 1 a.m. to say something serious was happening. She arrived to find firefighters and the Samu, and a doctor told her that her mother had died. “I learned that that evening, she had decided to leave him,” she said. Alexandra said she had never known of any arguments in the couple: “I noticed nothing, she told me nothing.” She described her mother as “very radiant, always very elegant,” a devoted grandmother. “My mother is not a news item,” she said. She said it would be “too easy” for him to be declared not criminally responsible.

With France Victimes and Solidarité Femmes 21, she has organised a white march for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Place Darcy in Dijon. The man is presumed innocent.

Marsannay-la-Côte: Twelve Arrested Over Two 2025 Drug-Rivalry Assassinations

Police and gendarmes in Dijon, backed by the RAID and GIGN elite units, arrested 12 people on Tuesday, Oct. 6, in the Côte-d’Or, Yonne, Oise, Var and Haute-Garonne departments over two shootings around Dijon in September 2025, according to a joint police and gendarmerie statement approved by the Dijon prosecutor and released on Sunday, Oct. 11, France 3, AFP (via maCommune.info) and Le JSL reported. Eleven were placed under formal investigation (mis en examen). Three were returned to the prisons where they were already held for other cases, five were remanded in custody, and the rest were placed under judicial supervision, AFP reported.

The first killing was on Sept. 4, 2025. Majid Sabri, a 49-year-old ambulance driver and father, was shot outside his home in Marsannay-la-Côte by people in a powerful car, Le JSL reported. Gendarmes found the car burned out that evening in Couternon, and France 3 reported it carried false plates. Three days later, on Sept. 7, two men on a high-powered scooter fired on the occupants of a buggy on Place de la République in central Dijon. Amdi Khassiba, 23, from Autun, was killed and his passenger was seriously wounded. The scooter was found burned out the next morning in Glanon.

A first wave of arrests on Sept. 10, 2025, led to four people being placed under formal investigation, Le JSL reported. Investigators then linked further suspects to both killings, “whether suspected of being hitmen, drivers, those giving the orders or logisticians,” the statement said. It described an “unprecedented surge of violence” that was “evidently” part of a rivalry “between two criminal groups against a backdrop of drug trafficking.”

A Dijon lawyer for six of the suspects, speaking anonymously to France 3, disputed any link between the cases. He said the DZ Mafia from Marseille is involved in the Marsannay case and that the killers had the wrong target: “It was another person who was targeted.” He called the Place de la République shooting a “vendetta” between two rival gangs after a dispute the night before. The suspects have not been named and are presumed innocent.

Messina: Man Who Confessed to Killing Melissa Echevarria Found Hanged in Cell

Bessem Slimeni, 22, a Tunisian man who confessed to killing Melissa Echevarria, 40, in Messina, has been found hanged from the window bars of his cell in the prison at Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, Gazzetta del Sud, MessinaToday, La Sicilia and Messina in Diretta reported on Sunday, Oct. 11. Prison officers found him during a routine round, and attempts to revive him failed.

Until the day before his death he had been under a special watch regime after showing signs of possible psychiatric disorders, the reports said. The Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto prosecutor’s office, led by Chief Prosecutor Giuseppe Verzera, opened a file against persons unknown and seized his prison medical records. Investigators must establish why the watch was lifted and whether anyone bears responsibility. A medical examiner is due to be formally appointed for the autopsy on Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Echevarria was found in mid-August in the courtyard beside an empty building on Via La Farina in central Messina, after a call to the 112 emergency line. MessinaToday, La Sicilia and Messina in Diretta date her killing to Aug. 12. Messina’s Squadra Mobile identified Slimeni through surveillance camera footage and witness statements and arrested him on Sept. 22. He was already in custody for other offences, Messina in Diretta reported.

Before the judge for preliminary investigations, he admitted causing her death but said he had not meant to kill her. In his account, reported by Messina in Diretta, he realised 100 euros was missing from his pocket and suspected she had taken it. He said he gripped her neck with his hands for a few seconds to frighten her and walked away believing she was still alive.

His death ends any prosecution of him for her killing. Outlets differ on Echevarria’s nationality.

A court in Kırşehir, central Turkey, has jailed two sons of Rıza Güzel pending trial on suspicion of intentional killing, nearly 20 years after the family reported him missing from the village of Köşker in Akpınar district, Milliyet (citing the İHA and AA agencies), Notbir and Gazete İlk Sayfa reported. The sons are identified by the initials L.G. and B.G. Güzel’s wife, Z.G., was placed under judicial control, and the other suspects were released after giving statements to prosecutors.

Güzel, born in 1955, was reported missing by his family on Feb. 5, 2006. After the Justice Ministry set up a department to investigate unsolved crimes, the Kırşehir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office reopened the file and launched an intentional killing investigation, finding that the signs he had gone missing did not reflect the truth, AA reported.

The gendarmerie’s crime investigation team (JASAT) worked the case for about four months, Notbir reported. Investigators took statements from 11 witnesses in four provinces, checked hospital records in several provinces, satellite and aerial photographs from the period, and intercity bus terminal and journey records. They concluded he had never left the village. He had no steady job, worked as an unlicensed taxi driver, drank daily, and there were frequent family arguments, investigators found. A court authorised three months of phone taps on family members and others. Investigators cited the family’s contradictory statements and their lack of interest in the search.

Gendarmes then raided six addresses in three provinces and detained seven people: his wife and six children, named by initials as Z. Güzel, L. Güzel, B. Güzel, Z.Ş., B.Ş., M. Güzel and C. Güzel. Outlets give the raid date as Oct. 6 or Oct. 10. Following their confessions, and after they showed investigators the location, bone fragments believed to be his were found on village land.

“Witness statements, contradictory statements by family members, communication records and technical examinations were evaluated together and evidence was reached that the incident carries the suspicion of intentional killing,” Justice Minister Akın Gürlek said. Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi said: “The state does not forget.” The suspects are presumed innocent.

Police in Turkey detained the man suspected of shooting dead the Adana jeweller Zahir Cız, 66, in a dawn operation in Kuşadası, Aydın province, where investigators say he had gone to leave the country by boat, 5 Ocak Gazetesi reported on Sunday, Oct. 11. Police identified the suspect only by the initials O.A. They said he has 13 prior records for offences including theft and criminal damage. Several people accused of helping him flee were also detained, and all were brought back to Adana for questioning.

The shooting happened on Oct. 4 at about 2 p.m. in Reşatbey, in the Seyhan district, at the business Cız ran beneath his home, Sözcü and 5 Ocak reported. Cız, described by Sözcü as the owner of CIZ Holding and one of Adana’s wealthiest businessmen, was sitting with another man when a gunman approached and fired about eight shots from a handgun, then ran. Cız was hit in the head and body and died in hospital despite treatment. He was buried in Buruk Cemetery. The second man, named by Sabah and Sözcü as Hüseyin Altunbulduk, was shot in the abdomen and operated on at Adana City Hospital. Sabah described him as Cız’s acquaintance and allegedly his bodyguard. 5 Ocak gave his initials as H.A., aged 29, and said he is now in good condition. Sabah gave his age as 39. Outlets differ on whether the two were sitting inside the business or in front of it.

The homicide bureau of the Adana police department led the hunt, using security camera footage. After the killing, a video call that had circulated on social media months earlier drew renewed attention, Sabah, Sözcü and Son Dakika reported. In that call, a man described as a figure in the Adana crime group known as the Baygaralar allegedly threatened Cız by phone from abroad, and the two argued over protection money and business ties. Son Dakika reported that police are examining whether there is any link, and that no official finding ties the killing to that group.

No charge or court appearance for O.A. had been announced by Sunday. He is presumed innocent.

Valentin Ftoni, 52, convicted in absentia of three murders in the Shkodër region and wanted internationally since 2001, has been detained in New York, the Albanian State Police announced on Sunday, Oct. 11, Balkanweb and CNA reported. The two convictions together carry 50 years in prison.

The Criminal Police Department, through its Directorate for Serious Crimes and the Joint Investigative Services Unit, worked with the Diplomatic Security Service’s overseas criminal investigations unit (DSS/OCIU) at the U.S. Embassy in Tirana. That unit coordinated with the U.S. Marshals Service and Immigration and Customs Enforcement to find and arrest him, police said, after what they called long investigative work.

Investigators suspect that after leaving Albania he used forged documents and at least two false identities to enter the United States illegally. In the U.S. he is suspected of using yet another identity, obtained from a Central American country, police said. They did not say how long he had been living in New York or under what name.

His convictions:

  • On Sept. 28, 2001, the Shkodër Judicial District Court found him guilty of premeditated murder committed in collaboration, and of illegal possession of weapons and ammunition. He was sentenced to 25 years. On Sept. 19, 2000, in Ças, Velipojë, he killed two men, identified by the initials Gj. M. and A.M., in a blood feud.
  • On Nov. 18, 2008, the same court found him guilty of premeditated murder and unlicensed possession of weapons and ammunition for killing a man identified as G.T. on Aug. 12, 2001. He was sentenced to another 25 years.

Albanian police have not said whether he is held on an immigration basis or under an Albanian extradition request, or when he could be returned.

Osan Police Station in Gyeonggi Province made an emergency arrest of a man in his 40s on suspicion of murdering his two-month-old daughter, police said on Sunday, Oct. 11, according to SBS, Kyeonggi Ilbo, Dailian and Jinilbo.

Police received a 112 emergency call at about 3:47 a.m. on Sunday reporting that a two-month-old baby at a home in Seo-dong, Osan, was not breathing. Paramedics took the girl to a nearby hospital, where she died during treatment. Medical staff and police found bruises and other signs of injury in several places on her body and opened a criminal investigation.

Investigators then found that the father, who had gone to the hospital with her, used his mobile phone after she was pronounced dead to remotely delete the footage recorded that morning by a home camera installed inside the house, police said. Police arrested him at the hospital on a murder charge.

“Taking into consideration the bruises found on the baby’s body at the hospital and the circumstances surrounding the deletion of the home cam footage, we emergency arrested” him, a police official said. “We are currently questioning the suspect and his spouse about the exact circumstances of the case.” The official told Kyeonggi Ilbo that police are considering whether to apply for an arrest warrant.

Police will ask the National Forensic Service to perform an autopsy to establish the cause of death and whether there was abuse, Kyeonggi Ilbo reported. Because the victim is under 10, the case will be transferred to the women’s safety division of the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency. There is no record of earlier child abuse reports involving the family. Police are reviewing whether to add child abuse charges. The father has not been named and is presumed innocent.

Police in Masaka, Uganda, have arrested a moneylender and a traditional healer over the murder of Jackline Natukunda of Lukaya and other suspected ritual killings, regional police spokesperson SP Twaha Kasirye said, PML Daily, New Vision and ChimpReports reported on Sunday, Oct. 11. Both suspects are in custody, and no charges have yet been announced in court.

The case began on Sept. 29, 2026, when a human head wrapped in a white polythene bag was found at Kako Cell on the Kako to Mukungwe road in Nyendo-Mukungwe Division. Her body was later recovered at Butale Cell in Kyanamukaka and identified as Natukunda.

Police named the principal suspect as Kamugisha Kulaishi, 38, a moneylender of Kasala LC I in Nyendo-Mukungwe. New Vision spells his name Kulashi. The second suspect, a traditional healer from Kyotera District who has not been named, is alleged to have hired him. “He confessed he was hired by the witch doctor to procure human body parts at UGX 2,000,000, with an advance of UGX 250,000,” Kasirye said in a statement.

Police say Kamugisha led detectives and scenes-of-crime officers through a reconstruction. He showed them where he picked Natukunda up in Lukaya, where she was killed, and where her remains were left at separate locations.

Police say he also confessed to two other murders, in Nsangi in Wakiso District and in Sanga, and allegedly claimed to have eaten one victim’s heart. Police said a body linked to the Sanga case had been recovered and buried, and that they are investigating jointly with territorial police in Sanga and Nsangi. A jacket, gumboots, a saucepan and other items suspected to be linked to ritual activity were seized from his home for forensic examination.

The arrests followed work by the Nyendo Division and Masaka East regional police teams. “We urge the public to remain calm and vigilant as investigations continue,” Kasirye said. The confessions police describe have not been tested in court, and both suspects are presumed innocent.

Mohammad Sumon Mia, 35, a CNG auto-rickshaw driver, gave a confessional statement on Saturday, Oct. 10, before Judge Mominul Haque of a Cumilla court, admitting to the rape and murder of Tazmin, 15, a Class 7 schoolgirl, Prothom Alo, The Business Standard and The Daily Star reported. He was sent to Cumilla jail. Her father, Abdul Alim, filed the murder case.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Pankaj Barua set out the police account at a briefing at the district police superintendent’s office on Saturday morning. Tazmin hired Sumon’s auto-rickshaw at Padua Bazar at about 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, to take her to the Racecourse area for Tk 300, The Daily Star reported. He told her he would take a shorter route home but drove her along different roads to a secluded spot. When he stopped, she became frightened, tried to run and screamed. Police say he strangled her with a gamcha, a cotton towel, and raped her.

Police recovered her body on Thursday morning from a paddy field beside the Cumilla to Noakhali regional highway, in the Jagatpur (Manumura) area of Perul Uttar union under Lalmai police station, after a call to the national 999 emergency line. The auto-rickshaw was nearby. Her father identified her after seeing a live location she had shared at 2:52 a.m., by which time a Lalmai police team was already at the scene, The Daily Star reported.

Police say Sumon took her iPhone from her bag and fled to Chattogram, where he was arrested on Friday at his brother’s house. On his information, police recovered the phone from bushes beside a pond. Police said the preliminary investigation indicates he acted alone.

Her father told The Daily Star she had left home on Oct. 4 saying she was visiting a friend, travelled with the friend to Cox’s Bazar, and set off back to Cumilla on Wednesday night. The family is from Jashore and lived in Cumilla city because of his job, Prothom Alo reported. Sumon has confessed before a magistrate but has not been tried, and he is presumed innocent.

Hyderabad police arrested Mohd Ibrahim, a former employee of the Manha Wholesale cloth store beside the Sahifa Masjid in Azampura, on Saturday, Oct. 10, after Tahera Banu, who worked at the store, was stabbed to death there on Friday night, Oct. 9, the Times of India and India Today reported. The store is within the limits of Chaderghat police station.

The attack happened at about 9:30 p.m., police said. “The assailant had an argument with Tahera. During the argument, he pulled out a knife from his pocket and stabbed her multiple times,” Charminar DCP Kiran Prabhakar Khare told the Times of India. Chaderghat inspector K. Brahma Murari said two other workers, including a woman, were in the shop. The attacker fled, and co-workers took her to a hospital in Chaderghat. She was then moved by 108 ambulance to Osmania General Hospital. “Doctors at OGH found she had suffered serious injuries to her throat and nose. She was declared dead at around 10.30 pm,” her husband, Mohammed Khaja Moinuddin, said. The Siasat Daily reported that police were searching for Ibrahim late on Friday.

Moinuddin, who runs a meat shop in Karmanghat, said in his police complaint that they had been married for 24 years and have two daughters and a son. He said he learned of the attack from their daughter Asra Banu. He alleged that Ibrahim, who left the store a year ago, had proposed marriage to his wife, and attacked her with a knife after she refused and ignored him. India Today reported a different account from preliminary police information: Ibrahim told investigators the two had been in a relationship for several years and that she had recently distanced herself from him. Police said the motive has not been established.

“Prima facie, we know that the accused was earlier involved in a domestic harassment-cum-dowry case,” Khare said. Ibrahim, who is married with two children and lives in Moin Bagh under Santoshnagar police limits, was moved to Malakpet police station as a precaution, India Today reported. A murder case was registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Outlets give Banu’s age as between 34 and 40. Ibrahim is presumed innocent.

Gadge Nagar police in Amravati, Maharashtra, arrested Tushar Satish Kanhfade, 39, on Saturday, Oct. 10, and registered a murder case against him after his mother, Ranjana Satish Kanhfade, was strangled in Flat 204 at Gajanan Plaza on Navsari Ring Road, ETV Bharat reported in English and Marathi.

The two lived alone in the flat. Kanhfade, who is unmarried, works as a software engineer and had been working from home in Amravati, ETV Bharat and Maharashtra Times reported. His father has died, and a brother lives in the family’s home village in Morshi taluka, Navarashtra reported.

According to the preliminary information reported by ETV Bharat and Maharashtra Times, mother and son argued at about 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and he strangled her. He then walked into Gadge Nagar police station and told officers, “I killed my mother,” ETV Bharat reported. Police Commissioner Rakesh Ola, Deputy Commissioner Yashwant Solanke, senior inspector Gorakhnath Jadhav and a crime branch team went to the flat, Pudhari reported, and the body was sent to the district general hospital for a post-mortem.

Ravindra Shankar, 56, a home guard, was sent to jail on Saturday, Oct. 10, after his arrest on suspicion of strangling his wife, Shyama Dulari, and their eldest daughter, Pooja Sahu, 32, as they slept at the family home in Bholakheda, in Lucknow’s Krishna Nagar area, police said, according to the Times of India as carried by LatestLY, and Dainik Jagran, Aaj Tak and Amar Ujala.

Police say he used a mobile phone charging cable. Dainik Jagran reported that Shyama Dulari was killed in a first floor room and Pooja on the ground floor. Pooja’s five-year-old daughter and the accused’s unmarried younger daughter, Priya, were asleep in another ground floor room. According to the Times of India report, police said their door was locked from the inside, and that he had first mixed sleeping pills into the women’s tea. He then reported the killings himself. Aaj Tak said police received a Dial 112 call at about 6 a.m. on Oct. 9. Outlets differ on whether the killings happened on Thursday or Friday night.

“The accused home guard has confessed to the crime,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Mohammad Mushtaq told Dainik Jagran. The case was registered on a complaint from his daughter Priya. Inspector P.K. Singh said he had not reported for duty for a week and suspected his wife’s character, Dainik Jagran reported.

Police described a long family dispute. Shyama Dulari had left home with jewellery in 2025, and he filed a missing-person report before she returned, police said. Outlets differ on the month. Pooja’s marriages in 2017 and 2022 had both ended. She lived with her parents, ran a boutique and beauty parlour from the house, and there were frequent rows over her talking to a man, Dainik Jagran reported. Additional DCP (South) Rallapalli Vasanth Kumar said neighbours had reported frequent quarrels, according to the Times of India. On the evening before the killings he hosted his son and daughter-in-law for a meal, Dainik Jagran reported.

A forensic team examined the house and both bodies were sent for post-mortem examination. He is in judicial custody and presumed innocent.

The wife of a restaurant owner shot dead outside their restaurant in Nagoda, Kalutara, has died, police said on Sunday, Oct. 11, making it a double killing. Police had already arrested a 35-year-old man in Valaichchenai, on the east coast, suspected of carrying out the shooting, Hiru News and the Daily Mirror reported.

The attack happened at about 7:40 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, on the Kalutara to Nagoda road. The 54-year-old owner had arrived at the restaurant by car with his wife, police said. A motorcycle carrying two men had followed the car, and one of them opened fire on the couple before both fled. Investigators say the gunman kept firing until all 30 rounds in the magazine of a T-56 assault rifle were spent, Hiru reported. Preliminary investigations confirmed a T-56 was used, Newswire, The Morning and Ada Derana reported. CCTV footage captured the suspects arriving near a shop before the shooting and preparing the weapon, according to reports cited by Hiru.

The owner died at the scene. His wife, 52, a resident of Dodangoda, was admitted to the intensive care unit of Nagoda Teaching Hospital and died early on Oct. 11, police said, according to the Daily Mirror. Police have not publicly named either victim.

Police said the owner had lost the sight of one eye and was severely visually impaired in the other after an acid attack several years ago. Police also said they suspect he had close links with Bombuwala Naveen, whom they describe as an alleged organised crime figure and drug trafficker, Hiru reported. Police have not stated a motive.

The Kalutara Crimes Division, the Divisional Criminal Investigation Unit, crime scene investigators and Kalutara South Police are investigating and are trying to identify anyone else involved, including the second man on the motorcycle. The arrested man has not been named, and no charge or court date has been announced. He is presumed innocent.

Antônio Everaldo Emídio, 53, a native of Maracajá, was arrested in the act and booked by the duty delegate at the Araranguá Police Duty Centre for femicide and homicide after his ex-girlfriend, Flaviane de Oliveira, 44, and her boyfriend, Giovane Espíndola Severino, 35, were stabbed to death at dawn on Sunday, Oct. 11, in the Areias Brancas neighbourhood of Balneário Arroio do Silva, Santa Catarina, Portal Agora reported. He is held under police guard in hospital.

Military Police were first called at about 4 a.m., when he broke through the gate of her house and used a stone to smash the window of her Hyundai HB20, Portal Agora reported. He drove off in a white Honda Civic, and officers patrolled the area but did not find him. At about 6 a.m. he came back, broke in through the door, took a knife from inside the house and attacked the couple, according to Portal Agora and Jornal Razão. They ran into the street calling for help, but he caught them. At 6:10 a.m. police received a call reporting a fight. When officers arrived both were dead, and the Samu ambulance service confirmed the deaths. Portal Agora reported that Flaviane was stabbed at least nine times and had defensive wounds.

Fleeing toward Araranguá, he crashed the Civic off the SC-447 at Lagoa da Serra, suffering only minor injuries. Police are examining whether the crash was deliberate. Military Police arrested him at the crash site and took him to Araranguá Regional Hospital. Scientific Police recovered the knife, and the Civil Police are gathering camera footage from homes on the street, Jornal Razão reported.

Portal Agora reported that before the killings he left a handwritten note: “My children, forgive me, I had to go.” Police will analyse it as possible evidence of premeditation.

Flaviane, originally from Sapucaia do Sul in Rio Grande do Sul, worked as an operational assistant at the municipal Terezinha Uliana Victor early childhood centre, and the town hall issued a note of mourning. Giovane, from Sombrio, was a farmer, Jornal Razão reported. ND Mais reported that, by its own running count, 39 women have been victims of femicide in Santa Catarina so far this year. Emídio is presumed innocent.

Conceição Moreira da Silva, 31, was stabbed about 16 times on the pavement outside the Mercearia Azevedo, a grocery on Rua do Ipê in Chapada dos Guimarães, Mato Grosso, at about 9:06 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10. Her 44-year-old ex-husband was held by residents, arrested by Military Police and handed to the Civil Police, according to the police incident report as reported by Primeira Página, O Documento and Cenário MT. The case was registered as a completed femicide.

The state’s integrated security operations centre (Ciosp) dispatched officers after a call that a man was stabbing his ex-wife outside the grocery. The man ran. On the way to the scene, officers found him outside the X-Bonitão snack bar, being held by bystanders, with abrasions on his body and a cut to his head that the report attributes to the people who restrained him. A video filmed by residents shows him being held in bloodstained clothes, Primeira Página reported.

The Samu ambulance service took Conceição to the town’s emergency care unit (UPA), where she died. Medical staff told officers she had about 16 wounds from a cutting instrument. Officers recovered the knife on the pavement near where she lay and delivered it to the Civil Police with the suspect.

Witnesses told police they saw the attack, and the grocery’s security cameras recorded it. The owner made the footage available to the Civil Police, the report says.

Civil Police delegate Bruno Lima Barcellos told Primeira Página that Conceição had protective measures against her ex-partner over threats.

Since Law 14.994 of 2024, femicide is a standalone crime in Brazil’s Penal Code, punishable by 20 to 40 years in prison, Cenário MT noted. The suspect is presumed innocent, and police have not announced a custody hearing date. Outlets spell his name differently, so this card does not name him.

Lambaré: Ex-Partner Held in Femicide of Deisy Paola Giménez, Shot Despite Restraining Order

Judge Juan Oviedo on Saturday, Oct. 10, ordered Aldo Alexis Duarte Moreira, 26, held in pretrial detention at the former Tacumbú prison after prosecutor Amelia Bernal Jara charged him with femicide and intentional homicide in the killing of his former partner, Deisy Paola Giménez Segovia, 22, in Lambaré, Última Hora reported. He declined to make a statement to prosecutors.

Giménez was shot on the night of Thursday, Oct. 8, on Ybyra Pytã street in Lambaré’s Santa Lucía neighbourhood, metres from the minimarket where she worked, as she walked to her job, Última Hora and La Nación reported. Justice of the Peace Lidia Fariña told ABC TV that he waited in a white Toyota Runx, blocked her path and shot her in the street. An autopsy confirmed she was hit by two shots, ABC Color reported.

She had done everything the system asks, ABC Color reported from Fariña’s account. On Sept. 17 she reported him for violence at Police Station 32 in Posta Ybycuá. The next day the duty office granted an urgent protection order with a 500 metre restraining distance and a ban on any calls, messages or social media contact. He kept harassing her, and a contempt case was opened. At a hearing to ratify the evidence she told the court they had been together five years, marked by jealousy, violence and intimidation. Fariña said he denied everything and announced he would sue her mother for false testimony. The court notified prosecutors of the contempt on Oct. 7 and asked them to investigate. She was killed the next night. “We are devastated,” Fariña said.

He was on the run for about 24 hours. Officers of Police Station 20 Central arrested him at about 11:30 p.m. on Friday at his sister’s house in Naranjaisy, Villeta, after his brother-in-law contacted deputy chief Mario Gamarra, El Nacional reported. He reportedly asked officers not to beat him.

Giménez was in the last stretch of a law degree, worked two jobs and supported her family, La Nación and Última Hora reported. She was buried in her home town of San Estanislao. Última Hora counted hers as Paraguay’s 20th femicide this year, and citizen groups called protests. Duarte is presumed innocent.

Coahuila’s state prosecutor’s office opened a femicide investigation after the body of Alejandra Ramírez Chairez, 20, was found on the morning of Friday, Oct. 9, partly covered with earth and branches on hard-to-reach scrubland in the ejido Santo Tomás, in the municipality of Matamoros, Coahuila, Vanguardia, Info7 and Milenio reported. Her former partner, Jesús Alejandro “N”, 22, was detained on Friday night.

Alejandra had been reported missing since Wednesday, Oct. 7. Her sister posted on social media that she was last seen that day in central Matamoros and that her phone had been switched off and was not answering messages since, Info7 reported. Her family circulated her photographs and asked the public for help.

According to the versions reported by Meganoticias, Info7 and Milenio, she had arranged to meet a friend after leaving work. Her former partner also turned up, and he stayed talking with her after the friend left. Meganoticias reported that, according to that account, he was the last person in contact with her before she disappeared.

Authorities received a report on Friday morning of a body on the land. Security forces and prosecutors’ staff secured the site and collected evidence. Meganoticias described the place as a dirt road. Her body was taken to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) for an autopsy, which will establish the cause of death. Prosecutors have not released it.

Milenio reported that Jesús Alejandro “N” was handed to prosecutors on a charge of threats and is being investigated over her disappearance. Info7 reported that the charges he will formally face, and his legal status before a judge, had not been made public. He is presumed innocent, and Mexican authorities identify detained suspects only by first name and initial.

Villavicencio: ‘Capi Ortiz’ Gets 27 Years Over 28 Attacks by Libertadores del Vichada

A specialised criminal circuit court in Villavicencio approved a plea agreement between Colombia’s Attorney General’s Office (Fiscalía) and Alexander Herrera Ramírez, known as “Capi Ortiz,” and sentenced him to 27 years and 8 months in prison, or 332 months, for aggravated homicide and attempted aggravated homicide in homogeneous concurrence, Minuto30 and Agencia PI reported from the Fiscalía’s statement. The court also barred him from holding public rights and functions for 20 years.

A prosecutor from the Fiscalía’s Specialised Directorate against Criminal Organisations identified 28 criminal events in which he took part. The Fiscalía’s statement does not name the victims or break down how many of the 28 events were completed killings and how many were attempts or other attacks, Agencia PI noted.

Prosecutors said that as a leader of the armed group calling itself the Libertadores del Vichada, Herrera Ramírez coordinated and carried out contract killings between June 2014 and February 2016 in Puerto Gaitán, Puerto López and Villavicencio, in Meta department. The killings had two aims, according to the Fiscalía: to strengthen the group’s territorial control against rival organisations fighting over drug trafficking revenue, and to frighten residents who opposed its activities.

One of the proven episodes took place on Feb. 10, 2016, when National Police officers raided a property in Mosquera, Cundinamarca, to capture him. He tried to escape in a vehicle from which shots were fired at the officers. One officer was wounded by gunfire and another was run over by the vehicle.

Reports at the time said he was captured later that February at a house in the San Francisco neighbourhood of Ciudad Bolívar, Bogotá, by the police’s DIJIN in coordination with the organised crime prosecutors’ unit, Agencia PI recalled. He had gained influence over the group’s operations in Puerto Gaitán and Puerto López after the death of its leader, Martín Farfán Díaz González, known as “Pijarbey,” in September 2015. The Fiscalía did not say whether other cases against him are pending.

Marcelo Daniel Rodríguez, 35, was sentenced to life in prison on Friday, Oct. 9, for sexual abuse followed by death in the killing of Ricardo Hugo Castillo, 72, in central Rosario, Argentina, Rosario3, TN and El Esquiú reported. Judges Lisandro Artacho, Pablo Pinto and Ana Julia Milicic approved an abbreviated trial agreement presented by prosecutor Patricio Saldutti and accepted by the defence. Because of an earlier homicide conviction, Rodríguez was declared a repeat offender.

At about 3 a.m. on Jan. 29, 2025, at the entrance to a garage on Pasaje Araya in the 900 block, between Ricardone and San Luis, Rodríguez was with Castillo, who did not know what he intended, the prosecution established. Rodríguez punched him in the head, kicked him after he fell until he was unconscious, sexually abused him, beat him again and left. A security camera recorded the attack, and the video was a central piece of evidence, along with Rodríguez’s DNA found on the victim, the clothes he wore that day, and the autopsy findings. “Life was inevitable,” a judicial source told Rosario3.

Castillo lay unconscious in the street for hours until neighbours noticed him. He was taken to the Clemente Álvarez emergency hospital with skull and facial trauma and a haemorrhage, and died on Feb. 24, 2025. Rodríguez was arrested on Feb. 14, 2025, walking in the 1300 block of Mendoza street. He was living in a boarding house in the centre. Investigators found him through security camera footage and interviews in the area.

Castillo lived a bohemian life and walked the city centre day and night. “Ricardo was a free spirit,” a friend, Susana, told El Tres. “He had lots of friends.”

In 2014 Rodríguez was sentenced to eight years for killing Ricardo Leguiza, 61, who ran a state boys’ home on Chubut street, on Dec. 21, 2012, Rosario3 reported. He was also arrested in March 2011 over the killing of Alberto Gómez, 70, in an occupied house, but that case did not proceed.
