Ekurhuleni: Eighth Body, R400k Reward
South African police on Tuesday night and Wednesday confirmed an eighth woman’s death in the collective Ekurhuleni investigation that now runs from July through mid-September across Kempton Park, Clayville, Olifantsfontein, Rhodesfield, and KwaThema.
Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia announced a multidisciplinary specialised team, an expanded Operation Shanela “lockdown” of Kempton Park and surrounds, and a R400,000 reward for information leading to arrests. Acting National Commissioner Lt-Gen Puleng Dimpane said one previously missed Olifantsfontein/Clayville river find had been folded into the count. Among the identified dead is runner Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, 38. Most others remain unnamed. SAPS still refuses to treat every case as linked until forensics say so. President Cyril Ramaphosa has called the discoveries a national crisis.

DOJ: Russian Network Charged in Murder Plots
The U.S. Justice Department unsealed charges against five alleged members of a Russian intelligence–linked network accused of financing terrorism and recruiting people inside the United States to surveil and kill a prominent Russian dissident believed to be in the Washington, D.C., area.
Named defendants: Yuri Khrameev, 63; Kirill Khrameev, 27; Oemis Romagoza Durruthy, 35; Yaidel Delgado Suarez, 35; and Angel Eduardo Castro, 22 — all at large. Prosecutors say one U.S.-based recruit was offered $40,000 to “eliminate” or “disappear” the American-based target; another was allegedly offered $25,000 to kill a person in Lithuania. SDNY and FBI New York and Washington Field Offices are on the file. An indictment is an allegation; all five are presumed innocent. The Kremlin declined substantive comment Wednesday.

Los Angeles: Bus Crash Murder Arrest, Chopper Down
Bailee Lynn Rios, 36, of Simi Valley, was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of murder after LAPD says she drove a 2004 Ford Expedition the wrong way, ran a red light, struck a vehicle, then slammed into a city bus, killing Gage Weida, 31, and Daniel Castillo, 46, and injuring six others. Bail was reported at $4 million; the case is with the district attorney for charging.
About two hours later, an NBC/Telemundo news helicopter covering that collision crashed in Chatsworth, killing reporter Eliana Moreno, pilot George Marciniw, and ground victim Edy Gutierrez Mejia, 29. NTSB investigator Fabian Salazar said Wednesday the crew’s final video — with cockpit alarms — is likely the most important evidence so far. Rios is presumed innocent.

Chester: Letby Families Blame Hospital Bosses
A day after Lady Justice Kathryn Thirlwall’s public inquiry report landed, solicitor Tamlin Bolton — representing seven families affected by Lucy Letby’s crimes — said responsibility for the delay in calling police “lies squarely” with Countess of Chester Hospital executives.
The inquiry, published Tuesday by the Department of Health and Social Care, found a “complete failure” to protect infants and said some attacks and deaths could have been prevented if safeguarding had begun when suspicion first arose. Letby is already serving whole-life terms for seven baby murders and seven attempted murders. Three former managers remain under investigation for gross negligence manslaughter. Former executives said they were reviewing the findings and could not comment further while other probes continue.

Cuautla: Warrant for Tacoronte Suspect
Morelos Fiscal Fernando Blumenkron Escobar said Wednesday a specialised judge issued an apprehension order for Francisco Javier “N,” known as “Paco El Trompas,” in the feminicidio of Spanish exchange student Claudia Tacoronte Aguilera, 21, stabbed near Cuautla’s Casa de la Cultura.
Citizen video and CCTV helped identification; the search now runs beyond Morelos. Prosecutors have not established any prior relationship between suspect and victim and are examining an alleged robbery angle. Claudia’s body remains at Semefo Temixco pending family recognition and repatriation. The named man is at large and presumed innocent.

Isla Cristina: Alleged Hitmen Arrested Overnight
Guardia Civil arrested two foreign nationals early Wednesday in San Bartolomé de la Torre who investigators say were the motorcycle shooters in the Aug. 16 Isla Cristina, Huelva, attack that killed a 39-year-old woman eight months pregnant (fetus also died), her mother (62), and a 16-year-old unrelated to the clan feud.
Total arrests in the case are now five. The new detainees face three murder counts, attempted homicide, fetal injuries resulting in death, injuries, and belonging to a criminal organisation; they were due before Ayamonte court Thursday. Motive is framed as hired revenge in a multi-year clan conflict. All suspects are presumed innocent.

Paraíba: Suspect Claims Dozens of Killings
Civil Police in Paraíba say Jorlan Lopes da Silva, 33, is linked to 16 homicides in roughly three months after leaving prison in May 2026. In interrogation he allegedly claimed about 80 lifetime killings; investigators treat that figure as unverified but “close.”
He was arrested Sunday in Mulungu after a multi-day manhunt, allegedly disguised as a woman and carrying an unrelated toddler. Two alleged accomplices were also detained; police cite possible ties to a Rio-originated faction. Cases include a double homicide of merchants in Rio Tinto on Aug. 1. Delegado Douglas Garcia is on the file. Lopes da Silva is in custody at Presídio Sílvio Porto in João Pessoa and is presumed innocent of unproven counts.

Portland: Calhoun Indicted in Sixth Death
Multnomah County prosecutors announced Wednesday that a grand jury indicted Jesse Calhoun on first-degree manslaughter in the death of Elizabeth “Libby” Gibson, 32, of Portland. Authorities believe she was killed Nov. 18, 2022; her remains have not been recovered.
Calhoun already faces second-degree murder and related charges in the deaths of Ashley Real, Kristin Smith, Charity Perry, Joanna Speaks, and Bridget Webster, and has pleaded not guilty. DA Nathan Vasquez, SDDA Melissa Marrero, and acting Portland Police Chief Brian Hughes briefed Wednesday. Arraignment on the new count is Monday before Judge Celia Howes. He is presumed innocent.

Houma: Quadruple Stabbing Suspect Booked
Kaegan Jude Solet, 47, of Houma was released from medical care Wednesday and formally booked on four counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder, held without bond, after a Sept. 12 Ashland Drive stabbing rampage.
Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet says deputies found a stabbed juvenile — still critical but stable — then four deceased adults in two residences, the agency’s first quadruple homicide. Soignet asked the public for surveillance video from Sept. 12–13 along Ashland Drive. DA Joseph Waitz Jr. expects a grand jury Oct. 27. Victim identities remain withheld pending notifications. Solet is presumed innocent.

Glen Alpine: Teens Charged in Wrong-House Shooting
NSW Police Strike Force Gareno charged boys aged 14 and 16 with murder Wednesday after Fairfield raids in the Sept. 1 killing of university student Marco Tapia, 23, shot in bed at his Glen Alpine family home.
Detectives allege the teens staged vehicles and provided a weapon for the gunman in what police say was a wrong-house / mistaken-identity attack. Additional charges include criminal group, unauthorised prohibited firearm, and vehicle theft; the 14-year-old also faces damaging property by fire or explosion. Both were refused bail and were due in children’s court Thursday. A third suspect remains at large. The teens are presumed innocent.

Bahrs Scrub: Ninth Teen Charged in Party Killing
Queensland police on Wednesday charged a ninth person — a 17-year-old Inala boy — with murder over the death of Jongkuch Kur Jongkuch, 21, of Redbank Plains, found unconscious with critical head injuries after an out-of-control house party on Orchard Avenue about 2 a.m. July 26. He died Aug. 1.
Eight teens aged 17–19 were charged last month. Police allege attackers came armed and “prepared to inflict harm.” The newest defendant faces Beenleigh Children’s Court Thursday. He is presumed innocent.

London, Ont.: Partner Charged in Femicide
London Police charged Mandeep Singh, 41, with second-degree murder after officers found a woman with life-threatening injuries at a Chelton Road home about 6:25 p.m. Tuesday; she later died in hospital.
Police say Singh and the victim were in an intimate relationship and characterized the death as a femicide — the city’s fourth homicide of 2026 and second in under a month. No weapons recovered yet; other family members at the residence were uninjured. Victim’s name not released. Singh appeared by video Wednesday with a Punjabi interpreter; the Crown opposed release. Next video appearance Friday. He is presumed innocent.

Adelaide: Snowtown Killer’s Parole Conditions
A day after South Australia’s challenge to James Spyridon Vlassakis’s parole failed, Parole Board chair Frances Nelson KC said the Snowtown killer remains in custody but will move to the Adelaide Pre-release Centre under curfew, weekly reporting, geographic exclusions, no contact with victims’ families, psychological intervention, and random drug and alcohol testing.
Nelson told ABC a failed illicit-drug test would “quite likely” return him to prison. Victims’ Rights Commissioner Sarah Quick said families remain distressed; as a life-sentence prisoner, his parole conditions are permanent. Vlassakis pleaded guilty to four of the 11 “bodies in the barrels” murders and served a 26-year non-parole period that expired in August 2025.

Portsmouth: Man Charged in Woman’s Death
Hampshire Police charged Scott Langley, 48, of St Pauls Road, Southsea, with murder after Carole Langley, 74, was pronounced dead at a Cyprus Road property following a domestic call just before 10:00 BST Monday.
He remains in custody and was due at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court Thursday. Next of kin are being supported by specialist officers. The force made a mandatory IOPC referral regarding its response. Langley is presumed innocent.
