A rural Washington County scene that started as a vehicle-fire call on Saturday is now a quintuple homicide. Five people and several animals were found dead on Otis Lane outside Forest Grove; detectives named Benjamin Charles Parker, 36, as the suspect, and Enumclaw police found him dead in a car Sunday. Sheriff’s officials said the killings were not random and that Parker was known to the victims. Names of the five have not been released in this window. In Missouri, Scott County fire chief Jeremy Perrien was charged with second-degree murder in his wife’s 2025 highway death after a year-long Highway Patrol investigation. Former Sangamon County deputy Sean Grayson died in custody Sunday while serving 20 years for killing Sonya Massey. A Texas judge denied Karmelo Anthony a new trial. A 15-year-old was arrested in the Friday shooting of 17-year-old Levi Brown at a Bakersfield football game. In Plymouth, the Clancy defense rested Friday and rebuttal continues, with closings expected this week.

Five Dead on Forest Grove Property

Washington County deputies responding at 5:27 a.m. Saturday to assist firefighters at a vehicle fire on NW Otis Lane, unincorporated land outside Forest Grove, found human remains. Investigators later counted five dead people and several domestic animals. On Sunday, detectives identified Benjamin Charles Parker, 36, as the suspect. Enumclaw police found him deceased inside a vehicle behind a Safeway. Authorities believe he died by suicide. Sheriff’s officials said the killings were not random and that Parker was known to the victims. They reported no ongoing public danger. Victim names, ages, and relationships had not been released as of this briefing. The scene is large and was described as complex. Fire Chief Charged in Wife’s Death

Jeremy Perrien, 45, fire chief of the Scott County Rural Fire Protection District, a reserve deputy, and former assistant coroner, was arrested August 21 and charged with second-degree murder in the June 29, 2025, shooting death of his wife, Shelby Kesler Perrien, 31, on Interstate 55. He also faces first-degree harassment, second-degree domestic assault, and two counts of tampering with physical evidence. He is held without bond in Stoddard County. He is presumed innocent. The Missouri Attorney General’s Office is prosecuting.

Perrien told first responders she had shot herself. Because of his local law-enforcement and fire ties, Sheriff Derick Wheetley turned the case to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control. Charging materials cited by local and national reporting include a text that she would “100% will need a body bag,” a hidden-folder video of prior violence, blood-pattern work indicating the shot came from the driver’s seat, and an admission that he deleted messages from both phones after the shooting. Sean Grayson Dies in Prison

Sean Grayson, 32, the former Sangamon County deputy convicted of second-degree murder in the July 2024 shooting of Sonya Massey, 36, died Sunday while serving a 20-year sentence. His attorney, Daniel Fultz, confirmed the death and declined further detail. The Illinois Department of Corrections said he died at an out-of-state facility. Grayson had been diagnosed with colon cancer that his lawyers said had spread. The Illinois Prisoner Review Board denied a medical-release request in July.

A Peoria County jury convicted him in October 2025; he was sentenced in January to the maximum 20 years. Massey had called 911 about a possible prowler. Body-camera video of the encounter was shown at trial. Anthony New-Trial Motion Denied

Retired Kaufman County Judge Michael Chitty denied Karmelo Anthony’s motion for a new trial on Saturday. Anthony, 19, was convicted of murder in June and sentenced to 35 years for the April 2025 stabbing of Austin Metcalf, 17, at a Frisco ISD track meet. The conviction stands. Defense counsel has said an appeal will follow.

Chitty’s order followed a two-day hearing. The original trial judge, John Roach Jr., had been recused from remaining trial-court matters after a post-verdict interview. Defense arguments included an off-the-record “gentleman’s agreement” on character evidence and claims that courtroom access and judicial impartiality were compromised. Teen Shot at Bakersfield Football Game

Levi Brown, 17, a student-athlete, was fatally shot Friday night inside the stadium gates at Independence High School in Bakersfield as a varsity game was starting. He was pronounced dead at Kern Medical. On Saturday a 15-year-old was arrested on murder and participation in a criminal street gang. Police have not released the suspect’s name because of age. Bakersfield police said the shooting was not random and that the parties knew each other. The 15-year-old is presumed innocent.

Officers were called shortly after 8 p.m. August 21. Police said the gunfire was south of the football field, inside the gates, and that there was no active-shooter threat afterward. The game was canceled. Bakersfield Police Department.

Clancy Rebuttal Continues

The defense in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial rested Friday. Prosecution rebuttal testimony continues this week in Plymouth Superior Court. Closings are expected in the coming days. The victims are Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and Callan, 8 months. Clancy, 36, is charged with three counts of murder. She acknowledges strangling the children in the family’s Duxbury home in January 2023 and jumping from a second-story window. She is pursuing a lack-of-criminal-responsibility defense based on postpartum psychosis and medication. She has not testified.

Friday was day 18. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington ended with forensic psychiatrist Dr. Phillip Resnick, then told the judge, “Lindsay Clancy rests.” Prosecutors opened rebuttal with psychiatrist Dr. Avram Mack and said more experts would follow. The live question remains criminal responsibility, not whether the children were killed. A verdict is not in.
