Luigi Mangione stood in Manhattan federal court Friday and said he shot UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. His lawyers walked out and filed to kill the state murder case on double-jeopardy grounds; the September date was still on the calendar tonight. In Memphis, a traffic stop turned up Lanessa Bradford dead in the passenger seat after a Baton Rouge park shooting police pin on Tyronne Brazille. Los Angeles prosecutors announced a guilty plea in the Lancaster quadruple killing. Seven teenagers stayed locked up in Brisbane after a Kelvin Grove dating-app lure. Gunfire ripped through a Lexington community event just before 7 p.m., killing one person and wounding four, including a 4-year-old and a 14-year-old. A 45-day Florida manhunt ended with Isabelle Rose Johnson in custody. Gary Glowacz pleaded not guilty in a 1987 Jacksonville cold case. British Columbia charged two men in a Langley taxi killing. Plymouth was dark Friday, but jurors already had Lindsay Clancy’s phone notes. In Bedfordshire, four men walked on bail after a 17-year-old died on Soulbury Road.

Mangione Pleads Guilty in Federal Court

Luigi Mangione, 28, pleaded guilty Friday in Manhattan federal court to two counts of interstate stalking resulting in death in the December 4, 2024, shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, 50, outside a Midtown hotel. Reading a prepared statement, he told U.S. District Judge Margaret M. Garnett, “On the morning of Dec. 4, 2024, I shot Mr. Thompson in Manhattan, and he died.” He said he used a 3-D-printed gun with a silencer, posed as an investor to get conference details, and traveled with intent to kill. There was no plea deal. Prosecutors said they will seek life. Sentencing is December 18. Thompson’s widow, Paulette, was in the front row.

Within hours, defense lawyers Karen Friedman Agnifilo and Marc Agnifilo filed in state court seeking dismissal of second-degree murder and weapons counts under New York’s double-jeopardy statute. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said it remains committed to the state case and will litigate the motion. Jury selection in the state trial was still listed for September 8 as of this freeze. Mangione has pleaded not guilty in state court. Bradford Found Dead in Memphis Stop

Memphis police stopped Tyronne Brazille, 50, for a traffic violation Thursday and found Lanessa Bradford, 50, dead of a gunshot wound in the passenger seat. Baton Rouge Police say the pair argued at Independence Community Park, 7500 Independence Blvd., that Brazille shot Bradford, then drove through several states. He is held in Tennessee as a fugitive awaiting extradition. Police say he will face a murder charge in Louisiana. He is presumed innocent. Court records show the couple married in 2003. East Baton Rouge Schools confirmed Bradford worked at Melrose Elementary.

The Advocate published the BRPD account Saturday. WBRZ, also Saturday, said he is expected in Shelby County court Monday. Some local accounts spell the last name Bazille. Mental-health claims in secondary writeups have not been confirmed by police and stay off this card. Baton Rouge Police Department; Memphis Police Department.

Sandoval Pleads Guilty in Lancaster Killings

Miguel Diego Sandoval, 21, pleaded guilty Thursday to four counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances of multiple murders and lying in wait in the November 16, 2024, killings at a home on North Tabler Avenue in Lancaster. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced the plea Friday. He also pleaded guilty to attempted murder, first-degree residential burglary, arson of an inhabited structure, three counts of animal cruelty, and two counts of child abuse likely to cause great bodily injury or death. Sentencing is November 17 at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. The agreed term is life without parole. The plea is entered.

Prosecutors say Sandoval waited until the occupants went to bed, went inside, and fatally shot Janvi Maquindang, 21; Christine Aca-ac, 25; Edwin Garcia, 24; and Matthew Montebello, 21, then set the house on fire. A 16-year-old called 911 from a locked bedroom and was rescued by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies. District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said the attack was revenge after Sandoval’s relationship with Aca-ac and Maquindang’s brother ended. NBC Los Angeles’s headline used “Manuel”; the DA’s release and charging name are Miguel. Four dead, a fire, a surviving minor, and a life term already on paper. That is a plea, not a trial.

Seven Teens Charged in Kelvin Grove Death

Seven teenagers remained in custody Friday after appearing in Brisbane Magistrates Court on murder charges in the death of Oliver Conroy, 27. Police allege he was lured to Kelvin Grove about 10:30 p.m. on July 24 by a fake dating-app profile, assaulted on Victoria Park Road, and had his blue BYD Shark 6 stolen. Neighbors found him in the street. He died August 6 at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. The seven — five boys aged 15 to 17 and two girls aged 14 and 15 — were first charged with assault and car theft. Murder counts were added after he died, under Queensland’s “adult crime, adult time” laws. They are presumed innocent. Juvenile names are withheld.

A 17-year-old appeared by videolink Friday. The other six did not appear. None applied for bail. Magistrate Anne Thacker remanded them. Next dates are August 24 for the 17-year-old and September 1 for the others, with DNA applications listed for Monday. Gunfire at Lexington Community Park

Lexington police responded just before 7 p.m. Saturday to shots fired at Charles Young Park, in the 200 block of Midland Avenue, during an East End community event. Officers found five people shot. One was pronounced dead at a hospital. The other four had injuries police described as non-life-threatening. Chief Lawrence Weathers said two of the wounded were children, ages 4 and 14. He said he did not believe there was an ongoing public threat and declined to discuss a suspect. No arrest had been announced by 9 p.m. The dead person’s name had not been released pending identification and is withheld here.

Devine Carama of ONE Lexington said he was at the park and that a person about eight inches from him was hit. Midland Avenue was still closed at 9 p.m. Lexington Police Department; Fayette County Coroner’s Office had not issued a public identification in this window.

Johnson Caught After 45-Day Manhunt

Isabelle Rose Johnson, 38, was arrested Thursday afternoon at a home in Cottondale, Jackson County, Florida, after a 45-day hunt that crossed Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. Walton County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals took her without incident. She is charged with an open count of murder in the death of Jason Coulthart, 43, whose remains were found June 25 in a shallow grave off Sunset Lane in Freeport. He was last seen May 24 leaving the College Condominiums in Niceville. She is presumed innocent. Investigators said a digital trail, including an IP address from someone she was communicating with, led them to the house.

Five people were already charged as accessories after the fact: Bobbi Wagstaff, 31; Martin and Sandra Leaverton, both 63, of Fort Walton Beach; and Michael Ray White, 74, and Kathleen Morris, 59, of Santa Rosa Beach. Body-camera video of Johnson’s arrest was released Friday. She made a first appearance in Jackson County and was due in Walton County court Saturday. Walton County Sheriff’s Office.

Glowacz Pleads Not Guilty in Cold Case

Gary Edward Glowacz, 70, of Middleburg pleaded not guilty Thursday in Duval County to second-degree murder and armed burglary with assault or battery in the December 28, 1987, beating death of Melissa “Missy Taylor” Ellison, 20. Judge Jonathan D. Sacks arraigned him. He is held without bond at the Duval County jail. He is presumed innocent. His lawyer in court was Adam Beaugh. News4JAX reported the plea Friday.

Ellison was found in her bed on Colejean Road with blunt-force trauma to the head. Roommates checked on her after finding her toddler, Casie, crying on the living-room couch. The case went cold. On July 8 Glowacz called Clay County dispatch and said he wanted to provide information. Jacksonville’s Cold Case Unit interviewed him and obtained a warrant. Casie Ellison, now an adult, was in the courtroom Thursday with Project: Cold Case. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office; Duval County courts.

A 39-year silence, a self-report, and a not-guilty plea on the record. That is still an allegation.

Conspiracy Charges in Langley Taxi Killing

British Columbia’s Integrated Gang Homicide Team on Friday arrested Jared Douglas Polischuk, 35, and Luis Manuel Baez, 29, and charged them jointly with conspiracy to commit the murder of Taran Pandher, 24. Pandher was shot the night of September 5, 2025, while a passenger in a taxi near 200th Street and 53rd Avenue in Langley. He died at the scene. About 30 minutes later, a vehicle fire was reported in the 13250 block of 64A Avenue in Surrey. Investigators have said they believe the fire is linked and that the shooting was targeted and tied to the B.C. gang conflict. Both men are presumed innocent.

Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT called gang homicides among the most complex files and said investigators believe others were involved. The Canadian Press moved the charging announcement Friday afternoon. Integrated Homicide Investigation Team; Langley RCMP.

Clancy Phone Notes Read to Jury

There was no testimony Friday in Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial in Plymouth Superior Court. Thursday was Day 13. A cellphone forensic analyst read notes extracted from her phone, including one last modified the day before the January 24, 2023, killings that said, “Medication stole my motherhood and my life.” Clancy, 36, has pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder in the strangulation deaths of Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and Callan, 8 months, in Duxbury. She does not deny killing them. The defense says postpartum psychosis. Prosecutors say she acted deliberately. She is presumed innocent.

Jurors also heard a search, “Can you treat a sociopath?” Massachusetts State Police troopers walked the phone and Apple data. A day earlier, medical examiners’ testimony and autopsy photographs led Judge William Sullivan to clear the room twice while Clancy sobbed. CBS Boston said Friday that 71 witnesses had been called and that the prosecution had not yet rested. Court resumes Monday. Plymouth Superior Court; Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.

Linslade Teen Death, Four Men Bailed

Bedfordshire Police were called at 10:25 p.m. Thursday to reports of a possible burglary on Soulbury Road in Linslade, near Leighton Buzzard. A 17-year-old boy was found unresponsive. First aid was given. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward. His name had not been released. A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. Three other men were arrested in connection with the death. A Saturday police statement said all four had been released on bail pending further inquiries. Next of kin were informed.

Det. Insp. Caeva Taylor of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit said the original 999 call reported a break-in in progress, but “our enquiries so far have found no evidence whatsoever that the victim was carrying out, or attempting to carry out, a burglary.” Police asked for doorbell and CCTV. A dead 17-year-old, a burglary call that police now say was not a burglary, and four men out on bail. No charges had been announced.

U.S. Marshals continue an international search for Matthew Christopher Flores Semyonov, 27, wanted in the deaths of his parents, Hector and Larissa Flores, whose remains were found in a Litchfield Park, Arizona, backyard earlier this month. He is believed to have left the country. Ronald Arthur Claren Cora, 37, is charged in Queensland with the domestic-violence murder of Djuarn Baker-Adams, 27, found unresponsive at a Slacks Creek home on August 12; the matter was mentioned Thursday and updated Friday, with no bail application.
