The Crime Ledger: October 17, 2026

Daily Breaking True Crime Briefing
As of: October 17, 2026 (afternoon ET)
Scope: Saturday’s board covers cases reported from Friday, Oct. 16, through Saturday, Oct. 17, ET, from police, court and prosecutor statements and newsrooms in North America, Europe, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

A judge in Ensenada sentenced three men to 158 years each on Friday for killing Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson and their American friend Carter Rhoad on a 2024 surf trip in Baja California. In Ireland, Cian Stacey, 21, and Jessica Dalton, 31, appeared in court charged over the Waterford arson attack that killed Philip and Kim English and two of their sons, and in Manhattan, two teenagers were indicted after a Fashion Institute of Technology student died from fentanyl she was told was cocaine. French investigators charged a 32-year-old woman suspected of being a hired gun in a double murder at an Ivry-sur-Seine shisha bar, and Michoacán prosecutors said the CJNG killed Uruapan mayor Carlos Manzo in revenge for a cartel boss’s arrest. Murder charges came four years on in a Burnaby double homicide, two Yellowknife Mounties were charged in a death in a police vehicle, and a Ghent jury convicted Dave De Kock in the death of 4-year-old Dean Verberckmoes. The rest of the board runs from death sentences in Mysuru and Malegaon to a Muzaffarnagar priest allegedly shot over a wrong birth prediction, a Pontalina murder-for-hire and a ransomware case that German police now tie to a London hospital death.

A judge in Ensenada sentenced three men to 158 years and nine months in prison each on Friday for murdering Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson and their American friend Carter Rhoad on a surf trip in Baja California in 2024. Judge Raúl Hernández handed down the terms to Jesús Gerardo, known as “El Kekas,” Irineo Francisco and Ángel Jesús, Infobae reported. Their surnames have been withheld for legal reasons.

Callum, 33, Jake, 30, and Rhoad, 30, were camping near Punta San José, in the Santo Tomás area south of Ensenada, in late April 2024. Investigators said the attackers wanted their belongings and parts of their pickup, and trial testimony showed the three resisted. All three were shot in the head. Their bodies were found on May 3, 2024, in a well near a clifftop, and the truck was found burned.

The men were convicted on Oct. 9 after a trial that opened Sept. 7. Prosecutors had sought 210 years. According to Infobae, the judge imposed 45 years for each killing, plus 10 years and nine months for robbery and 13 years for the vehicle theft. He rejected a damages claim of 1.9 million pesos because the value of the stolen gear was not proven, leaving the families to sue in civil court. The families followed the hearing by video link, The Guardian reported. Ary Gisell Silva, a former partner of El Kekas who testified that Rhoad begged for his life, was sentenced to 20 years in November 2025 after pleading guilty in a separate proceeding.

Cian Stacey, 21, of no fixed address, and Jessica Dalton, 31, of Waterford city, appeared before Judge Andrew Gubbins at a special sitting of Clonmel District Court in County Tipperary on Saturday, charged in connection with the arson attack that killed four members of the English family in Waterford on Tuesday, The Irish Times and BBC News reported. Each faces one count of criminal damage and two counts of assault causing serious harm against two people who cannot be named for legal reasons.

Philip and Kim English and their sons Callum, 12, and Jayden, 9, died after their home in the Birchwood estate was set on fire in the early hours of Tuesday. Two other children were critically injured and taken to hospital in Crumlin, Dublin. Gardaí are treating the case as a multiple murder and arson attack.

Detectives told the court that Dalton was charged at Waterford Garda Station at 2:45 p.m. Irish time on Saturday and Stacey at 2:44 p.m., and that neither made any reply. Their lawyer, Ciarán Murphy, made no bail application. Dalton, described in court as a lone parent who is not in employment, consented to being remanded in custody, and Stacey was remanded to appear by video link. Both are due back before Waterford District Court on Tuesday.

The pair were arrested on Thursday and are suspected of facilitating the activities of an organised crime group, RTÉ reported. Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly said on Friday that he expects further arrests and that gardaí know the people who were involved. Seven searches have been carried out, and a vehicle and devices were seized. The funerals of the four are set for Monday. Both accused are presumed innocent.

Manhattan: Two Teens Indicted After FIT Student Dies From Fentanyl Sold as Cocaine

Federal prosecutors in Manhattan have charged two teenagers in the death of a Fashion Institute of Technology student who was given fentanyl in a campus dorm and then raped while unconscious. An indictment unsealed this week names Moises Freire, 19, and Brian Peralta Cabrera, 18, in a three-count drug conspiracy and rape case, NBC New York reported. Both pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors say Freire brought what he told two young women was pure cocaine to their FIT dorm room in March, even though he knew he had bought the drug from Peralta Cabrera, who had called it “fake” and “poison.” The women lost consciousness almost immediately. Freire did not take the drug, the indictment says. Prosecutors allege he raped one woman, texted photos of the two to friends and waited about 45 minutes before contacting campus security.

The woman who was raped died in a hospital a few days later. The second woman nearly died and suffered serious injuries. ABC7 identified the student who died as Annabel Richter. In an email to students, FIT said it had lost “a beloved member” of its community earlier this year.

A 32-year-old woman suspected of working as a contract killer was charged and jailed in Paris on Friday over a shooting that killed two people at L’Atelier, a shisha bar in Ivry-sur-Seine, Paris Match reported. Identified as Zohra A., a mother of three previously known to police for cigarette trafficking, she told investigators in custody that she had been recruited to kill the bar’s manager and that she acted under duress.

Shots rang out at the bar around 3 a.m. on Oct. 12. The manager died at the scene, and a second person died in hospital on Oct. 13, prosecutors said. A second alleged shooter was also charged and jailed. A third man, suspected of acting as the driver, was also charged and jailed, and a fourth person, a woman suspected of helping a suspect evade police, was charged and placed under judicial supervision, La Clé Publique reported, citing AFP information confirmed by the Paris prosecutor’s office. The charges include murder by an organised gang. The bar’s manager had survived an earlier shooting at L’Atelier in April 2024, the outlet said.

Paris Match described the case as a first in France: a woman suspected of being the hired gun in a killing of this kind. Euronews reported that she goes by the nickname “Nikita.” All four are presumed innocent.

Michoacán prosecutors said Friday that the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) killed Uruapan mayor Carlos Manzo in revenge for his security crackdown, above all the arrest of René “N,” known as El Rino, an alleged local cartel boss. Israel Vega Rodríguez, who heads the state prosecutor’s office, called it the main line of the investigation and said there is so far no sign of a political motive, Norte Digital reported.

Manzo was shot dead on Nov. 1, 2025, during a Day of the Dead celebration in Uruapan. El Rino had been captured on Aug. 27, 2025, a little over two months earlier.

Vega said the investigation is about 90 percent complete. Among those detained are Ramón Ángel “N,” known as El R1 and described as a CJNG leader, and Jorge Armando “N,” known as El Lic, whom authorities identify as the alleged masterminds. Both are held in the Altiplano maximum-security prison. Record and Norte Digital put the total number of people detained in the case at 32 and 33. None has been convicted, and all are presumed innocent.

Almost four years after Kiesha Garie, 31, and her fiance Umair Kasim, 30, were found dead in a parked car on a quiet Burnaby street, a 27-year-old man has been charged with their murders. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said Mohammed Arif Ansari faces two counts of second-degree murder and one count of indignity to human remains.

The Coquitlam couple had been reported missing a few days before a passerby spotted their bodies in a car near Alpha Secondary School on Oct. 17, 2022. Police released few details over the years. Garie’s family started a Facebook group to keep pressure on the case, which became the subject of a true crime podcast, and her mother, Christine Angelis, protested outside RCMP headquarters in Surrey in February, saying she had been “kept in the dark,” the Vancouver Sun reported.

“This was a complex investigation that demanded years of dedicated work,” IHIT Sgt. Freda Fong said. Ansari is presumed innocent.

Deepak Sandhu, 24, a former Southampton Solent University student, was jailed for life at the Old Bailey with a minimum term of 28 years for murdering Xiaoqing Ke, 39, a mother of two, in a “sustained and brutal” knife attack in a rented flat in west London, BBC News reported.

The two met in 2025 while Ke was working in a brothel in Southampton. Prosecutor Caroline Carberry KC said their “relationship of sorts” fell apart after Sandhu stole money from her, and described a “campaign of emotional manipulation” in which he took control of her finances, her phone and at one point her passport. By the time of her death, Ke wanted nothing more to do with him.

Sandhu bought knives a few days before traveling to London, where Ke had rented an Airbnb, the court heard. After the killing he took her phones, destroyed his SIM card the next day and tried to leave the country. Judge Philip Katz passed sentence.

Two Yellowknife RCMP officers have been charged with causing death by criminal negligence and failing to provide the necessaries of life in the death of Lawrence Blackduck, 56, a Tłı̨chǫ man who died in a police vehicle in March 2025. Court documents obtained by CBC News identify them as Constables Nicholas Ash and Brent Young, both 32.

Police said officers took Blackduck into custody on March 12, 2025, after a report of a man disturbing the peace at a business on 50 Street. He was placed in a police vehicle “for investigational purposes” while officers gathered information. When they returned, he was unresponsive. Officers and paramedics tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alberta RCMP’s major crimes unit investigated and recommended charges. RCMP said a separate review led to changes in national policy and training on holding people in vehicles, without saying what went wrong. Both officers are suspended, and both are presumed innocent. They are due in court on Nov. 24.

A jury at the Ghent assize court on Friday found Dave De Kock, 39, guilty of the manslaughter of 4-year-old Dean Verberckmoes in 2022, of kidnapping resulting in death and of possessing child sexual abuse images, DH reported. His former partner, Romy Wuytack, 29, a Dutch woman, was acquitted of kidnapping resulting in death and convicted only of possessing and sharing child abuse images. The jury deliberated for three hours.

Dean had stayed before with the couple in their apartment in Sint-Gillis-Waas and spent the night there on Jan. 12, 2022, the last day he was seen. Investigators say De Kock crossed into the Netherlands during the night of Jan. 14 and left the boy’s body the next afternoon near Neeltje Jans in Zeeland. The body was found on Jan. 17, the same day De Kock was arrested in Meerkerk.

De Kock had pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denied kidnapping.

A fast-track court in Mysuru on Saturday sentenced Karthik, 32, to death for the rape and murder of a 9-year-old girl whose family had come to the city from Kalaburagi to sell balloons during the 2025 Dasara festival, the Times of India and Hindustan Times reported. He had been convicted on Oct. 15.

On Oct. 9, 2025, Karthik abducted the girl as she slept with her family in a plastic tent on the footpath on Manasara Road, prosecutors said. She suffered 27 stab wounds. Special public prosecutor K.B. Jayanthi called it one of the “rarest of rare” cases.

Nazarbad police arrested Karthik, a bus cleaner from Siddalingapura, within a day, and a charge sheet listing 83 witnesses was filed within three months.

Gurinder Gill has been arrested on a murder charge after investigators identified burned remains found in El Dorado County as those of his wife, Jasmine Aujla Gill, who vanished from their Sacramento home at the end of September, The Tribune and Punjab Newsline reported, citing the sheriff’s investigation.

Jasmine went missing on Sept. 30, and a woman’s burned remains were found in El Dorado County on Oct. 1. A cousin reported her missing on Oct. 4. Gurinder told investigators that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers had taken her while she was checking the mail, according to the reports. ICE said no such operation took place at the address, and investigators found other inconsistencies in his account.

The two had been in a dispute over divorce and custody of their children, the reports said. Gurinder was arrested on Oct. 14, and search warrants were served at two homes linked to him. Gurinder has not been convicted and is presumed innocent.

A second 13-year-old boy was placed under formal investigation on Friday on suspicion of helping prepare the armed attack at Lakanal middle school in Aubagne, Midi Libre reported, citing a judicial source. The boy, from northern France, faces charges of complicity in attempted murders linked to a terrorist enterprise and of terrorist criminal conspiracy.

The judge placed him under judicial supervision that requires him to stay in a closed educational centre, the measures sought by France’s national anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office (PNAT).

The attack took place on Oct. 12 at about 9:20 a.m., when a student dressed all in black and wearing gloves entered the school with a firearm hidden in a guitar case. The school’s senior education adviser disarmed him, according to the PNAT. The alleged shooter was charged and jailed on Wednesday. Neither boy has been named, and both are presumed innocent.

Eliel Gerónimo Noel Schiffo, a 37-year-old former police officer, was charged in Rosario with sexual abuse and femicide in the killing of Bárbara Camila Aragón, whose body was found in a suitcase, Seprin and Identidad Correntina reported. Judge Vallarella ordered him held in pretrial detention for two years.

Prosecutors say Aragón arrived at a rooming house in northwest Rosario at 11:26 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, for a paid sexual encounter Schiffo had arranged. When she realized he had no money, she tried to leave. She had asked the DiDi driver who dropped her off to come back in an hour, but minutes after arriving she texted him to return urgently. That message became key evidence.

Schiffo had paid for her ride by bank transfer, which let investigators identify him and the address, according to the accusation. The driver also helped police. Schiffo is presumed innocent.

Edmonton police were called to the college and the Plumbers and Pipefitters UA Local 488 building near Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street at 8:27 a.m. Officers found an injured man, who died at the scene. A student told CTV News Edmonton she heard five or six shots from the parking lot below her third-floor classroom.

Parkland RCMP said they spotted a vehicle matching the description heading east on Highway 16, disabled it and arrested the people inside, who were treated for minor injuries and handed to Edmonton police. The homicide unit is investigating. No charges had been announced, and the victim had not been named.

A Wicklow man has been charged with the murder of Mark Cullen, a father of three who was shot in the leg and died at Patrician Park on Kill Avenue in Dún Laoghaire on Sunday, July 5. Edward Andrews, 32, of Radharc na Farraige, Wicklow town, appeared before Judge John Hughes at Dublin District Court on Saturday morning and was remanded in custody, TheJournal.ie reported.

Cullen, from Shanganagh Cliffs in Shankill, died at the scene. Gardaí arrested Andrews earlier in the week for questioning and charged him with murder contrary to common law.

The hearing was shaped by the dispute between solicitors and the government over legal aid payments. Edward Bradbury, who normally represents Andrews, told the court he could take no active role because of the industrial action, saying it put “every active participant in the court in an invidious position.” He is due back before Cloverhill District Court next Friday. Andrews is presumed innocent.

A Cuyahoga County jury on Friday convicted Dojuan Nettles, 41, of murder and kidnapping in the 2011 strangling of Brandon Cartellone, 21, in his Tremont apartment, the county prosecutor’s office said. A co-defendant, Dionte Davis, was acquitted on all charges.

Prosecutors say Nettles went to Cartellone’s apartment near Professor Street and West 10th Street on July 26, 2011, tied him up with belts and duct tape, assaulted him and fled. Cartellone’s girlfriend found him around 1:30 the next morning. The medical examiner ruled his death a homicide by manual strangulation.

The case stayed open for 14 years until the Cleveland Homicide Initiative, which includes Cleveland police, the FBI, the county forensic lab and the state’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation, used advanced DNA testing to link Nettles to the scene. He was arrested in Florida on July 9, 2025. “After 15 long years, we are grateful to finally provide Brandon Cartellone’s family with answers,” Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley said. Sentencing is set for Nov. 4.

The suspect is accused of providing logistical help for the killing and has been placed in pretrial detention.

Mehdi Kessaci was shot several times on a Marseille street in broad daylight on Nov. 13, 2025. He was unknown to police and had no link to the drug trade. His death drew a strong political response, with Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez calling it a crime of intimidation.

The arrest comes weeks before the first anniversary of his death and days before the trial over the killing of Amine Kessaci’s half-brother, Brahim Chabane, Le Figaro reported. No name has been released, and the man is presumed innocent.

A Minnesota man was arrested Friday on a first-degree murder charge in the 1995 shooting death of Angela Renee Buck, a 37-year-old Waterloo woman whose body was found by turtle hunters along a creek east of the city. The Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office said Kelly Grant, 59, of Bertha, Minnesota, was taken into custody with help from the Todd County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

Deputies found Buck’s body in the 900 block of Pilot Grove Road on Aug. 11, 1995. An autopsy showed she died of a gunshot wound. Buck was at a house on Cottage Street in Waterloo that night with several people, including Grant and another man, according to the complaint described by FOX 9. A witness saw someone resembling Grant and the second man force her into a vehicle and drive away.

In January 1996, the complaint says, an associate told investigators Grant had suggested he and the other man killed Buck because they believed she had stolen from them, and that she “wouldn’t be doing this to anyone else again.” Grant is presumed innocent.

Laken Snelling, the former University of Kentucky student who admitted killing her newborn son, was sentenced Friday in Fayette Circuit Court to 10 years in prison, the term prosecutors recommended under her plea deal, LEX 18 reported.

Snelling pleaded guilty on Aug. 21 to first-degree manslaughter, abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence and concealing the birth of an infant. “Instead of helping him, I ended his life,” she told the court at that hearing.

Lexington police were called to a home in the 400 block of Park Avenue at about 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 27, 2025, and found the baby dead. Roommates had heard loud noises from her room around 4 a.m., according to search warrant records cited by LEX 18, and later went in and found the infant. The Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office determined the boy was born alive and died of asphyxia by undetermined means, which led a grand jury to add the manslaughter charge.

Jessica Antolini, 30, died Thursday night, two days after deputies say her boyfriend shot her and ran her over outside a bar in Safety Harbor, with his 5-year-old daughter in his vehicle. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said the charge against Christopher “Dodge” Smith, 40, was upgraded from attempted first-degree murder to first-degree murder. He also faces a child abuse charge.

Investigators say Smith went into Harbor Bar at 840 Main St. around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday with his daughter, leaving their dog in the parking lot. He walked out with Antolini, and the two began arguing. Deputies say he shot her near Ninth Avenue South and Main Street, then drove over her and left with the child and dog inside.

Witnesses called 911 and described the vehicle, and deputies stopped Smith a short time later. The girl and dog were returned to family. Antolini was pronounced dead at 9:14 p.m. Thursday, FOX 13 reported. Friends built a memorial of flowers and candles near the corner and asked people to wear purple at Friday’s Third Friday street festival. Smith is presumed innocent.

A jury has convicted Muhammad Haarith, 23, of murdering Matthew Weller, 44, whom he ran over and dragged beneath his Volkswagen Passat in Accrington town centre in April, Lancashire Police said Friday. He will be sentenced on Monday.

Police said Haarith had four teenage passengers in the car on Blackburn Road around 9:45 p.m. on April 22. Weller, whom police described as vulnerable, exchanged words with a back-seat passenger through an open window as he walked past. A judge has issued an arrest warrant for Eduardo Ederly González, a 38-year-old businessman, as the alleged mastermind of the killing of celebrity stylist Miguel Ángel de la Mora, known as Micky Hair, in Polanco, Infobae reported. The warrant remains open, Telediario reported. Three men accused of carrying out the attack are already in custody.

De la Mora was shot around 10 p.m. on Sept. 29, 2025, as he left his salon at Presidente Masaryk and Molière and stood talking with two people on the sidewalk, Telediario reported. Investigators concluded it was not a robbery but a targeted attack by a hired crew, with a gunman wearing a helmet.

The two men met in 2021 and went into business together before falling out over money. Ederly has said publicly that De la Mora owed him 4 million pesos for a loan and 3.5 million for building the salon, claims Infobae noted were never proven in court. In 2024, De la Mora filed a criminal complaint accusing Ederly of fraud and harassment and obtained a protective order against him. Ederly is presumed innocent.

The autopsy found she died of respiratory failure after being gagged and restrained, which kept her from reaching the oxygen machine she used every day. The robbery happened on Tuesday, Oct. 13, between 3:30 and 6:30 p.m. Police said the theft was the goal and her death a consequence of it. Officers recovered several pieces of gold jewelry taken from the home.

The teenagers were arrested Friday night and handed to the juvenile prosecutor on Saturday, who must decide whether to hold them in a juvenile centre. They are not named, and both are presumed innocent.

Police in Las Heras, Mendoza, on Friday arrested Agustín Raúl Bullones Soria, 29, known as “El Vaca,” wanted for the femicide of his partner, Gabriela Centeno, 42, whose dismembered body was found buried on the lot where they lived beside the old Pescadores road in the city of San Luis, Infobae reported.

Officers spotted him walking in the Santa Teresita neighbourhood shortly before 1 p.m. He tried to run, and he was caught after backup arrived. A San Luis prosecutor had issued a warrant for him on Oct. 14. Both were from Mendoza and had moved to San Luis this year.

Neighbours told El Diario de la República that she had not been seen for about a month and a half, that the couple argued often and violently, and that when asked about her, he said she had gone home. According to the paper, she is believed to have been stabbed, wrapped in a blanket and buried in a pit beside the shack. Neighbours had burned the shack in anger over a string of thefts. Bullones will be transferred to San Luis and is presumed innocent.

A security guard who shot a man accused of smashing a jewelry kiosk at La Gran Plaza in Fort Worth has been arrested and charged with murder, police said. Tyron Douglas Henton Jr., 31, faces the charge over the shooting on Wednesday night, CBS News Texas reported.

Officers were called shortly after 8:30 p.m. to the shopping center on South Freeway near Seminary Drive, where a man was reportedly using a blunt object to break glass display cases at a jewelry kiosk. Police said Henton, who was working security there, opened fire and hit the man at least once. The wounded man ran across the parking lot and collapsed near Seminary Drive, where he was pronounced dead. Police have not released his name.

Witnesses told CBS News Texas they heard four or five shots. Employees said the guard worked for a private company hired by the jewelry business rather than by the plaza, which the station said it had not confirmed. Texas law allows deadly force to protect property in some circumstances, and the case is likely to turn on that question. Henton is presumed innocent.

Kurt Ryan, 33, pleaded guilty on Friday, partway through his trial, to the murder of Lee Slattery, a 25-year-old who was shot twice at close range and buried in a shallow grave at Delmege Estate in Limerick in 2010. Ryan, of Moylish Crescent, admitted murder in association with a criminal organisation and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life on May 28, 2010, RTÉ reported. He was 17 at the time.

Prosecutor Michael O’Higgins told the Central Criminal Court, sitting in Cork, that Slattery was not a member of any gang, was “well liked” and had been “wrongly singled out,” and that there was “no basis for the killing.”

Judge Eileen Creedon accepted the pleas. The case will be mentioned in Dublin on Oct. 27, when a sentencing date will be set, and Ryan was remanded in custody.

Uttar Pradesh police on Friday arrested a father and son accused of shooting dead Swami Devanand Bharti, an elderly priest at a Shiva temple in Bhaurakalan village, Muzaffarnagar, because his prediction that they would have a boy proved wrong, the Indian Express reported. Zeeshan, 22, and his father, Hashim, 54, both labourers, were arrested.

Police say Zeeshan sought the priest’s help after his wife suffered miscarriages, and Bharti gave herbal remedies and predicted a son. A daughter was born recently, and a dispute followed. On the night of Oct. 13, police say, Hashim distracted the priest while Zeeshan shot him with a country-made pistol outside his room on the temple grounds.

The pair then scattered photos of a neighbour they were feuding with around the scene to frame him, police said. Officers recovered two pistols, cartridges and a motorcycle, and said the two confessed. Reports gave the priest’s age differently. Both are presumed innocent.

The killing came five months after Christopher Nyeko, a lab technician at the university’s health centre, was killed by unknown attackers near campus on May 22. Both suspects are presumed innocent.

German police investigating a detained 28-year-old Russian man accused of being a core member of the Qilin ransomware gang are now including the 2024 hack of Synnovis, which disrupted London hospitals and contributed to a patient’s death, BBC News reported. The BBC said British police are also examining whether their own inquiry could lead to an unlawful killing case, which would be a world first in cybercrime.

The man, named by German media as Vladimir K., was arrested by Japanese police when he arrived for a holiday in May. Germany wanted him over a September 2024 attack on a logistics company that was extorted for about $160,000 in cryptocurrency. His extradition was first reported in early October.

Qilin hit Synnovis, a pathology provider, on June 3, 2024, disrupting blood transfusions, canceling operations and affecting more than 10,000 appointments. King’s College Hospital later said a patient “died unexpectedly,” with “a long wait for a blood test result” among the contributing factors. Vladimir K. has not been tried and is presumed innocent.

Ricardo Gonzalez-Aguirre, 40, was held Friday in the Wood County Jail on $1 million bond, charged with murder in the shooting of his girlfriend, Annalisa Lorraine Sandoval, 51, KLTV reported, citing an arrest affidavit.

Deputies were called Tuesday to a reported suicide on County Road 1689. Gonzalez-Aguirre told a detective that Sandoval said she was “sick of things” and shot herself next to their bed. The detective noted the scene did not match: there was no blood where he said she shot herself, and she was found on the bathroom floor between the toilet and a wall, with a handgun under her body.

The next day, according to the affidavit, he changed his story and admitted shooting her through a wall while she was in the bathroom, saying it was an accident. Sandoval died Wednesday. The murder charge is an accusation, and Gonzalez-Aguirre is presumed innocent.

During a chase on the night of Oct. 14, a home guard fired an old .303 rifle at the smugglers’ speeding vehicle, police said. The shot missed and hit a department vehicle ahead, killing Kumar. The team at first said smugglers had opened fire on them. A special investigation team found contradictions in their accounts, and the vehicle was sent to Patna instead of being handed over.

Those arrested include prohibition sub-inspector Pushpa Kumari, three home guards, a constable and a private driver. Nalanda Superintendent of Police Hriday Kant said the charges are hiding evidence and concocting a false story. The rifle was seized. All are presumed innocent.

Gabriele Sorada, 28, was placed under a prosecutor’s detention order and sent to prison on Saturday on suspicion of the voluntary homicide of Antonio Nisi, a 34-year-old gardener from Ostuni found dead near Piazza della Libertà in the centre of the town during the night of Oct. 16, BrindisiReport and Quotidiano di Puglia reported. The order was issued by Brindisi prosecutor Laura De Stradis.

Carabinieri had been looking for Sorada to question him as someone with information about the killing but had not found him, Quotidiano di Puglia reported. Questioned by De Stradis, he declined to answer questions and gave only his own account of what happened, BrindisiReport said.

Passersby found Nisi’s body on the paving, and paramedics could only confirm his death. Forensic doctor Domenico Urso found a wound between the armpit and arm consistent with a 7.65-caliber pistol, which has not been recovered. An autopsy is expected early next week. Investigators are saying little about a motive; BrindisiReport said one line being examined involves drug use. Sorada has not been tried and is presumed innocent.
