Plymouth Superior Court ended the Clancy trial without a verdict Friday after a third deadlock note, a one-hour Hail Mary to the Supreme Judicial Court, and a formal mistrial — Cora, Dawson, and Callan still without an answer, and DA Timothy Cruz not saying today whether he retries. In Atizapán de Zaragoza, Mexico’s security chief named Argentine businessman Diego Sebastián Rosen Ferlini as the business partner who allegedly walked into a Grand Viure penthouse and left Camilo Séptimo keyboardist Jonathan Meléndez, pregnant Ana Paula Barragán, three-year-old Sofía, and household worker Aleyda Romero dead; a six-year-old boy survived under blankets. North Queensland’s Bogie cattle-gate massacre closed in Townsville with unanimous murder verdicts against grazier Darryl Valroy Young. Boulder deputies booked Barry Morphew on an Alamosa failure-to-comply warrant after prosecutors put hit-and-run video from Denver on the record. Washington County, Pa., held Royce and Rachel Moser without bail in the Karoline Heintz killing. South Yorkshire’s Ecclesall Woods shooting produced Manchester arrests. And in Tooele, Utah, Daniel Castro Ruesga faces murder after police say he crashed into Silvia Bahena-Mota’s Tesla and shot her while her four kids were inside.
Clancy Trial Ends in Hung-Jury Mistrial
Plymouth Superior Court formally declared a mistrial Friday in the case of Lindsay Clancy, 36, after jurors told Judge William Sullivan — “with a heavy heart” — they could not and would not reach a unanimous verdict on day seven of deliberations. That was the panel’s third deadlock note. Sullivan first said he would declare the mistrial, then gave defense lawyer Kevin Reddington about an hour to race a single-justice petition to the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court seeking to force further inquiry or removal of a holdout juror. Associate Justice Dalila Argaez Wendlandt denied the stay. Sullivan thanked the jury and set a status conference for Sept. 29.
Clancy does not deny strangling Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, in the family’s Duxbury basement on Jan. 24, 2023, then jumping from a second-floor window. Defense: postpartum psychosis wiped out criminal responsibility. Prosecution: she planned it — sending then-husband Patrick out for dinner and Pedia-Lax, timing the trip, killing the children one after another. Plymouth County DA Timothy Cruz said outside court that a retrial decision would not come today and that the case “has always been about getting justice for those three little babies.” Clancy remains at Tewksbury State Hospital. She is presumed innocent.

Atizapán Penthouse Massacre Shakes Mexico
On Tuesday afternoon inside a Grand Viure residence in Zona Esmeralda, Atizapán de Zaragoza, State of Mexico authorities say four people were shot dead: Jonathan Meléndez, 38, keyboardist and founder of the band Camilo Séptimo; his partner Ana Paula Barragán, 35, four months pregnant; their daughter Sofía, 3; and Aleyda Romero, 21, who worked in the household. The family’s dog was also killed. Their six-year-old son survived, found under blankets, and is with relatives. Security chief Omar García Harfuch has said elevator cameras show Argentine businessman Diego Sebastián Rosen Ferlini, 51 — a business partner of Meléndez — arriving about 5:24 p.m.; he was arrested the next morning near La Marquesa. Driver Gerardo Cisneros Bejarano, 52, was also detained.
Harfuch has framed the entry as trust abused for money — debts, cash, crypto under investigation by the State of Mexico Attorney General’s Office. As of Friday reporting, the men were in custody while their legal status on the multi-homicide was still being sorted; El Universal noted early holding on other counts while the homicide line advanced. President Claudia Sheinbaum called it a “very sad and tragic situation.” Both men are presumed innocent.

Bogie Grazier Guilty in Farm-Gate Triple Murder
A Townsville Supreme Court jury on Friday found Darryl Valroy Young, 63, guilty of three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder in the Aug. 4, 2022, shootings at the gate of his Shannonvale Station at Bogie, north Queensland. Mervyn and Maree Schwarz and Maree’s son Graham Tighe were found dead there. Graham’s brother Ross Tighe was also shot, fled, and raised the alarm. Prosecutors said Young believed the neighbours were stealing cattle and had demanded the meeting. After about 15 hours over three days, the jury returned unanimous murder verdicts, then a majority (11) guilty on the attempted-murder count. Young showed no emotion; Justice Christopher Johnstone remanded him for sentencing Monday. Guy Schwarz, speaking for both families: “No verdict or sentence can give us back Merv, Maree and Graham.” Young’s son Derek still says his father is innocent. Young had pleaded not guilty and is presumed innocent pending sentence and any appeal.

Morphew Booked After Denver Hit-and-Run Video
Boulder County deputies arrested Barry Morphew, 59, at 9:11 p.m. Thursday on an Alamosa County warrant for failure to comply, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Friday. Morphew already faces first-degree murder in the death of his wife Suzanne, who vanished Mother’s Day weekend 2020; her remains were later found near Moffat. On Wednesday, Alamosa District Judge Amanda Hopkins ordered him homebound with no exceptions after prosecutors filed video they say shows him in a Denver hit-and-run on Aug. 26 while on GPS monitoring — striking vehicles, offering money to keep police out, then leaving. 12th Judicial District Attorney Anne Kelly called him “clearly visible and identifiable” and asked to tighten bond. Bond hearing: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Alamosa. Murder trial now set for July 19. He is presumed innocent on all counts.

Mother and Son Held in Karoline Heintz Killing
Royce Moser, 18, of North Strabane Township, Pa., faces homicide in the death of Karoline Heintz, a PennWest California University student found Aug. 20 in her Jeep after she failed to return to campus. Pennsylvania State Police say Moser’s affidavit claims a “demon” told him to stab her during an argument in his driveway; he allegedly retrieved a knife, stabbed her, put her in the hatch, and had his mother Rachel Moser, 56, follow him to campus to leave the vehicle. Bodycam released Thursday shows California, Pa., officers finding her unresponsive with “blood everywhere.” Affidavits allege Rachel told him to bathe and change, put his clothes in the wash, and bagged the knife for trash — recovered on a warrant. Both face tampering, abuse of a corpse, and obstruction; Rachel also faces hindering and related counts. Held without bail in Washington County jail; formal arraignment Oct. 13. Heintz’s family asked for privacy: “This is a parent’s worst nightmare.” Both are presumed innocent.

Ecclesall Woods Shooting: Two Arrested in Manchester
South Yorkshire Police are investigating the gunshot death of a man found by a member of the public in Ecclesall Woods, Sheffield, about 6:46 p.m. Wednesday near Whirlowdale Road. A forensic post-mortem confirmed a gunshot wound; formal ID was still pending Friday. On Thursday officers arrested a 34-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man in Manchester on suspicion of murder. BBC reported Friday they had since been bailed. Det Ch Insp Andy Knowles called it “a devastating incident” and asked for dashcam or phone footage of anyone entering or leaving the woods Tuesday or Wednesday evening. Both remain under investigation and are presumed innocent.

Teven Creek Death Brings Murder Charge
NSW Police charged a 51-year-old woman with domestic violence-related murder Friday after officers found an 81-year-old man dead in a creek on a Teven Road property west of Ballina. A welfare check just after midday Thursday led to the discovery; police say the two were known to each other. She was arrested at the scene, assessed at Lismore Base Hospital, then charged and refused bail. On-site investigation continues. She has not been named publicly and is presumed innocent.

Spencerville Homicide: Second-Degree Charge Laid
Grenville County OPP say Justin Donovan-Biscope, 35, of Smiths Falls, was arrested Thursday and charged with second-degree murder and indignity to a body in the death of Chelsea Swinwood, 37, of Spencerville. Officers were called to a Crowder Road residence on Aug. 29 and found one person deceased. Donovan-Biscope was due in Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on Friday; he remains in custody. The file sits with OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, the chief coroner, and forensic pathology. Charges are not proven in court.

Tooele Garage Shooting: Boyfriend Charged
Daniel Castro Ruesga, 37, of Salt Lake City, was charged Wednesday in 3rd District Court with murder, four counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child, and improper discharge of a firearm after Tooele police responded late Monday to shots fired near Kings Landing Road and Emma Lane. Affidavit: officers found his pickup crashed into the rear of a Tesla in a garage, casings outside the Tesla’s driver door, and a deceased woman in the driver’s seat. Post-Miranda, police say he admitted intentionally crashing into the car and shooting her multiple times after an argument. Her four children were inside the home and heard it. Local reporting and People.com identify the victim as Silvia Bahena-Mota, 37. He has a prior domestic-violence-related misdemeanor history. He is presumed innocent.
