Executive overview: The last 48 hours featured several high-impact incidents, including a family murder-suicide claiming six lives (four young children) in Kansas, a workplace murder-suicide involving school custodians in Chicago, a charged neighbor dispute shooting in Fort Worth captured on video, a drive-by in Bexar County with subsequent arrests, the fatal shooting of a young child in rural Maryland, and an officer shot during a traffic stop in Calgary that ended with the suspect dead. These cases involve active investigations, recent charging decisions, or closed perpetrator outcomes. All details below are limited to publicly released official information or corroborated reporting from wire/local primary outlets. Active cases carry presumption of innocence language. Winfield, Kansas Family Murder-Suicide

Ronald H. Williams Sr., 53, called 911 around 8:50 a.m. and said he’d killed his family and would kill himself. Winfield officers got to the area near 9th Ave. & Stewart St., heard a shot on arrival, and breached later. They found all six deceased.

Dead are Kelly L. George, 44 — his wife — and four children: Carol A. Williams, 9; Ronald H. Williams Jr., 7; Sarah K. Williams, 5; and Kelly M. Magee-Williams, 3. Williams is dead too. Closed as of August 11. Murder-suicide, no charges filed.

Winfield Police and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation have the scene. Authorities noted his prior criminal history, including sex-offender registration, and prior system contacts. Four of the six dead are young children.

Fort Worth Neighbor Bicycle Shooting

Rudy Jaramillo, 44, was found dead in the driver’s seat on the 5600 block of Talons Crest Circle, Fort Worth. The car had multiple bullet holes. Shooting was about 8:44–8:48 p.m. Sunday, August 10.

Jose Alfonso Escamilla, 23, is charged with murder as of August 11. The arrest affidavit says surveillance video showed him following a neighbor on a bicycle and firing into the parked vehicle. It also cites matching clothing, firearm ownership, and reported neighbor tension over surveillance cameras. A SWAT/barricade situation came before the arrest. Fort Worth Police Department. He’s charged; he hasn’t been convicted.

Chicago Mark Twain Elementary Custodians

Two custodians were found fatally shot inside Mark Twain Elementary (Garfield Ridge / South Lotus Ave.) around 3:40–3:50 p.m. Monday, August 10. No students were there. Classes start August 24.

Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner ruled it a murder-suicide. The homicide victim is a 48-year-old female custodian; the 63-year-old male custodian died by suicide. Identities withheld. Security video reportedly showed the man walking behind the woman and shooting her, then going to an office and shooting himself. Motive, per police and reporting: he was upset over a job transfer. No charges. Workplace violence inside a school building, off-hours.

Bexar County (Northeast Side) Drive-By Shooting

A vehicle pulled alongside another near Crestway Road / Waterside Drive, northeast Bexar County / San Antonio, around 2:30–2:45 a.m. Monday, August 10, and fired multiple rounds. Andrew Locke, 31, was killed. His mother, Siobhan Locke, was injured. White Volvo. A license-plate reader helped identify it.

Arrests are in, investigation still open as of August 11. Robert Barnett, 38, and Kyle Erin Torres-Carcovich, 45, are charged with failure to report a felony resulting in death/serious injury. Martin Sanchez Jr., 58, faces the same plus tampering with physical evidence. Affidavits indicate Sanchez fired after stating intent and allege a narcotics-related meetup. Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. Murder charges haven’t been announced; those can still change.

Dorchester County, Maryland Child Shooting

A five-year-old girl was fatally shot and a 30-year-old man injured — he was airlifted — in an early-morning residential shooting in the 3900 block of Ocean Gateway (Linkwood area), Dorchester County. Troopers responded around 2:15–2:17 a.m. Tuesday, August 11. Both were found with gunshot wounds.

Neither victim has been identified in public reports. No charges announced. Maryland State Police (Easton Barrack / Homicide Unit) and crime scene technicians are on it. Cause and motive not released. Active investigation as of August 11; the public detail is thin, which is typical this early on a rural case.

Calgary Officer-Involved Shooting / Suspect Death

It started as a traffic stop on a black truck near Edworthy Park / Spruce Cliff around 11:45 a.m. Monday, August 10. The suspect got out and shot a Calgary Police Service officer twice, fled into the park, exchanged fire, carjacked a vehicle, and was later found dead in the Bow River from a self-inflicted wound. Body recovered from the river.

The officer hasn’t been identified. Police say he’s stable, in good spirits, and expected to make a full recovery. They described the suspect as a known organized-crime target. Bystanders were in the park during the chase. Suspect deceased as of August 10–11; no charges. Officer is recovering.

Additional Notes / Other Monitoring

  • Indianapolis, east side (Aug. 10–11): A cluster of unrelated shootings over about eight hours. Sheldon LaQuan Roberts, 28, died at the Budget 8 Inn on E. 21st St. Three other people were hurt. IMPD is investigating. That motel already had a violence history.
  • Philadelphia weekend (Aug. 7–9, still being reported on the 10th): Six killed — five shot, one stabbed — in separate incidents. The DA says the yearly count is still down a lot. No single linked pattern.
  • Also watching: older high-profile matters, including Luigi Mangione pretrial developments. They’re outside this briefing’s 24–72-hour window.
